Has anybody had their Main Rotor Blades "peel off" on the top side just out of the blue?
We just had a blade start to peel off on the top side near the trailing edge on 700 hour blades, it's just really weird and I want to know if it has happened to anybody else . . . . ?

Not a A109 but a 222. Was it similar?

Blender

Pics would be really good, we've just started operating a Power and anything like this is helpful.

I added some picutures, unfortunately I don't have the pics of the worst "peel off" which is just like the picture but about 4 cms long by about 1.5 cms wide, and it was like the others diagonal, along the threads of the composite material.

The blade wasn't banged against anything, or has any signs whatsoever of being so, the glue just started giving away.

I would like know if it has happened to anybody else . . .

Thanks in advance.

I'd heard of the A109E/S experiencing paint peeling on the new composite tail rotor blades, along the ‘lead lines’ used in the carbon lay-down process, but while that was not considered a safety issue this seems a little more serious.

I've seen peeling off blades in the 412 & 139 but at the leading edge.
It's the first time I see it on the trailing edge.

Gosh, that Italian glue just isn't up to it, is it?

Sorry, bonding agent.......you can charge a lot more for bonding agent than for glue....and the words "glue" and "rotor blades" don't go so nicely together.

Our 109 blades delaminated internally, nothing as spectacular as those pics! :}

Shy,
How did they find they had debonded internally ?

Just happened recently here, one of our A109E's lost an end cap in flight. Made an emergency landing in a field. I have pictures and will post them later. We now have a 25hr inspection on them. Happened on a aircraft with serial, number near 11044. I think the blades after that were made differently, I think..
Might be worth checking the end caps for cracking where they join the blade..:uhoh:

How did they find they had debonded internally?

Routine tap checks caused some suspicion, and were followed up by a visit from an Agusta rep with an ultrasonic tester. Again, the problem area was near the end cap.
