But can you get spares at Halfords? :cool:

Car repair publishers produce Spitfire manual

A company which produces car repair manuals has gone a step further by producing a guide to repairing Spitfires. The Haynes book, written with the cooperation of the RAF, reveals every detail of the Battle of Britain fighter plane, from fuselage and wing structures to the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and armour plating. More than 20,000 Spitfires and Seafires were built but only a few score fly on in the hands of private owners and with the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Haynes also plans instruction manuals for the wartime Hurricane and Typhoon aircraft.

:hmm: Sure this sin't another of Gordons wonderful "PFI's" being introduced, as always, by stealth then......start with something innocuous and then work your way up to the whole of the RAF's AP series "pay per chapter"......:E

Haynes manuals are bad juju. Half way through a job you turn the page and there are the fateful words:"Using Special Tool CVT765/A, remove the...".:uhoh:

Then there is the: "Remove and carefully retain..." for the widget that just went "Poing!" as it flew over yer shoulder into the garden.:{

The exploded diagram of yer gearbox. "How the feck did I get in this deep?":confused:

So, will you just be able to pop down to Halfords and ask for "a head gasket and a set of piston rings for a '44 Merlin please, oh, and what are the generic compatible brake shoes"? :}

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Why shouldn't Haynes print the repair manual? After all, Airfix produce the assembly manual.

When it comes to Haynes, never forget that even with a Spitfire:

"Re-assembly is the reverse of dis-assembly" (the sound of thousands of teeth grinding is deafening me at this moment)

Job done then........

I've had a Haynes Spitfire manual since 1972. It's for a Triumph Spitfire Mk4. :)
