View Full Version : Moderators and Power
Davaar 3rd Oct 2007, 16:10 Occasionally some disgruntled soul will cavil a bit here at a perceived or maybe, By Jove!, actual abuse of power by the Moderators. Quite right, too! or Right on! or Whatever! or Heigh-Ho! say the proletariat at such moments.
But now, my dear Moderators, you have gone too far. On behalf of the insomniacs of society who depend on such soporifics I ask: Why have you banned Judge Judy, Judge Greg Mathis, Judge Joe Brown, and that other screamer who has the full hour from 0200 to 0300 out of Detroit? Where is the Administration of Justice in America?
Gone! Silent! Gone all week, and not a word of warning, notice, or explanation. I knew you had power of course, but not to this extent, not over the airways (sonic, not aeronautic). Do not trouble to deny it. Bring back Judge Judy.
con-pilot 3rd Oct 2007, 16:34 Er, they are still on here. In fact Judge Judy is one of the richest women on TV, only second to Oprah.
So, hum, who banned them and where?
airship 3rd Oct 2007, 16:38 We should all be grateful that the rare (if overly-severe) punishments meted out here are not always accompanied by the physical body-blows using bamboo canes most recently seen on images out of Burma (or Myanmar if you prefer).
BTW, who is Judge Judy? Is she young, pretty or sexy? I would gladly give up my (virtual) life for the merest smile from a fair maiden.
If she is none of the above, then I plead temporary insanity (or maybe someone stole my username and password).
con-pilot 3rd Oct 2007, 16:45 Judge Judy is a 5 foot 2 inch lady that may weigh 100 pounds soaking wet, about 60 years old and meaner than a junk yard dog.
She takes no crap from nobody. (She refuses to accept any nonsense or tolerate misbehavior from any person in her courtroom.)
And yes, I love her. :ok:
She has written a book titled, "Don't piss on my shoe and tell me it is raining".
flyblue 3rd Oct 2007, 16:49 Bring back Judge Judy.
Ok, Dav! Where is she? :E
I'm not a big fan of TV, but I do try to have a peek at it whenever I'm in a foreign country, just for a feel. I must admit that to my poor, limited brain, American TV is UNBEARABLE! (except Bill Maher on HBO of course):p It's not even the programmes themselves (some are quite instructing, anthropologically speaking), but the fact that there are LOUD commercials all the friggin' time!!! And the same all day long! :{ I just can't!
I've tried Judge Judy once or twice, but (apart of the fact that to get to the end of the case you need 3 hours and 380 commercial breaks ) I found her a bit too prone to lecturing for my taste :hmm:

Why am I thinking 'Stepford Wives'
Davaar 3rd Oct 2007, 17:35 Flyblue, I wish I knew where the dear lady is. I've been looking all week. Digging around Google I saw one item (but can no longer find it again) that she is not to appear for 14 days. Naturally, I blamed the moderators. Well, what would you do? Say it ain't so.
I agree with you on the American TV. One of the worst was "Everybody Loves Raymond", No, everybody does not. That has recently come to an end, after endless repeats, to be replaced on the CBS channel we get here from Detroit by some horror, if you can believe it, even worse. Unwatchable. Therefore my search through the channels for Judge Judy has become frenetic. I prefer Judge Joe Brown, of course, but he comes on during the day, and I am only a nocturnal watcher.
Of course, it would be hard to beat some British TV for sheer awfulness. Take that: Are You Being Served? Every third instalment they had the "pussy" joke. Witty? My dear, I tell you.
west lakes 3rd Oct 2007, 18:34 Sad or glad to say, the said Judge Judy is as we type to be viewed on a UK Tv channel beamed to earth from the depths of near space:8
eticket 3rd Oct 2007, 18:55 I have just been reading the wiki entry for Judge Judy and I was surprised by:
1. The audience in the court room are almost all paid extras and only a very few are invited unpaid members of the public.
2. That her shows are still going on. In the UK (terrestrial) we only seem to get shows that relate to events that took place in 1999 and 2000.
3. That when Byrd is looking at his clipboard (all the time) he is actually doing a crossword puzzle.
4. (For me this is the biggie.) I have always wondered why the defendants etc. never look aghast, disgruntled, sad etc. when Judge Judy orders them to pay money to their opponent. They always seem to have a neutral expression as though it doesn't matter. Well it appears, and I may be the last person on the planet not to know this, that any financial judgements are paid for by the television production company and not by the people they are awarded against.
One of the worst was "Everybody Loves Raymond"
I do, nasal twang gets to me a bit though.
The worst thing about US tv, which nobody told me about is when it goes
Hurricane warning
Oh bloody Christ, hurricane, sh!t
This was a signal test
Or something like that, and I've nearly had heart seizure.
This seemed to happen every half hour.

tony draper 3rd Oct 2007, 18:59 Speaking of television there's a newish prog in the uk that takes a critical look at the output of the goggle box called Charlie Brookes Screen Wipe, one highly recomends same, that chap has a fine turn of phrase and is very inventive in his abuse of everything televisual
BBC4 One never misses it.:E
Parapunter 3rd Oct 2007, 19:21 I could not agree more Mr. D, in fact I record Mr. Brooker for repeated amusement. One finds his brand of journalism owes more to the Kelvin McKenzie school of management than is strictly necessary & all the better for it it is too.
flyblue 3rd Oct 2007, 20:24 Naturally, I blamed the moderators
Perfectly understandable. Actually, I'm planning to add "the Moderators" to the Forum Header: ....always blame the Americans/French/British :E
tinpis 3rd Oct 2007, 21:17 Why dont the MODs do somethin' about Jo Brand ? :*
frostbite 3rd Oct 2007, 21:35 Gawd!
Makes Ann Widdicombe look like totty.
tony draper 3rd Oct 2007, 22:04 Joe has the merit of being funny and that counts for a lot.

Helas, lieber Davaar, the immoderacy of which you complain may stem from enhanced Canadian filtration. Perhaps the soaring Loonie has gone to the heads at the Ministry of Culture, setting aspirations higher than JJ's reach?
ShyTorque 3rd Oct 2007, 22:09 I agree, Mr. D!
What's more, Jo Brand and Mark Lamarr make a far better radio show as mere stand-ins than the moronic "Jonafan Woss" and his giggling sidekick, Andy Pandy.
Ban Woss, that's what I say. :)
tony draper 3rd Oct 2007, 22:22 With you 100% there Mr T, he's a flatulent Jack the Lad tosser.:ok:
Davaar 3rd Oct 2007, 22:30 It could be, arcniz. Worse has happened. There used to be a chap whom I regarded as the essence of, ummm, moderation, but others foolishly thought to have a degree or two of right bank, beamed in from the US of A. All of a sudden it stopped. Later it turned out that the commie-wommies here (da leeberal value) had complained to the CRTC of his sore affront to their sensitivities. When I find out the name of that unspeakable new "comedy" that comes in from CBS Detroit at 2300 I shall call on flyblue to put an end to it. I know she can do it. She has never written to me before and I am pretty sure we have an understanding.
I've seen it, she's some operator...
Magistrate majestic. :hmm:
NIGELINOZ 3rd Oct 2007, 23:34 Jo Brand funny?
About as funny as a cow peeing over your leg,not funny, believe me.:p
bugg smasher 4th Oct 2007, 02:28 Ahh Davaar, you are a lawyer, are you not?
Judge Davaar, has a nice ring to it. Enter TV execs. Sockless, anglocentric, vaguely Scottish, in a Mel Gibson, ancestral kind of way, fearless warrior and defender of helpless ladies’ lace n’ silk honor, faithful protector to the witless cuckold, of minority race no doubt, who having been defrauded of his laundry and skittles money by said lace n' silk, turns to Judge D for Jove’s own morality dispensed, via high speed internet, from on high.
The Big D, the nationally syndicated D, the Only D, the Nike D, the Party D, yea verily, the Budweiser Moment D, dispenser of everlasting, soap n’ suds, sponsor-approved, clean-smelling justice. It’s the winning way, it’s the American way.
Damn we’re good! God Bless America!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! 4th Oct 2007, 02:36 Face it, Judge Judy is Smmmmmmmmmmmmokin' hot :ok:
Gainesy 4th Oct 2007, 09:44 I watched the first episode of a US series called "Jericho" last night. Utter rubbish, twas all about Kansas being nuked (fair enough, cause about $9 and change in damage) then took a swift swerve into middle-class, mid-west, apple pie and simpering Moms.:yuk:
I want me money back. I thought it was to be about an Oz air trafficer digging his way through 20ft of snow to get to the pub.
merlinxx 4th Oct 2007, 11:03 As so quite aptly put by our then IT manager one Friday eve in the Ops annex after a few ales:
quote
"big fat ugly birds should be put down at birth, they abuse my eyes!"
unquote
Not a nice thing to say, but the annex fell about at the time.
merlinxx 4th Oct 2007, 11:07 How's he going to get 20 ft of snow?
west lakes 4th Oct 2007, 11:16 How's he going to get 20 ft of snow?

Gainesy 4th Oct 2007, 12:13 An he lives in Winnepeg, not been seen recently has his MIL got him?:uhoh:
Capt.KAOS 4th Oct 2007, 13:49 Herr D., Judge Judy has been on TV here several years ago and soon this little powerhouse became my favorite. How small she is, she takes no sh!t from anybody. Sometimes she was carried away too much by her passion, but this world needs more of these kind of persons. Too much PC on telly nowadays...
eticket 4th Oct 2007, 13:57 athomeinthe sky
I think they do still lose money, except it is taken from what they are getting paid. So judgment of $2000 taken from say $5000 they are left with $3000
I cannot disagree with what you say as I have absolutely no knowledge of what really goes on and things might well have changed from 2001 when a newspaper article, that the wiki contributor references, was written. The article is about someone discussing their JJ experience.
"They flew us to Los Angeles, put us up at a hotel and gave us $35 a day," Baker said. The pair also got an appearance fee of $100 apiece, and the show agreed to pay any judgments."
http://www.sptimes.com/News/040101/Northoftampa/Judge_Judy_defuses_sp.shtml
It is fun when she gets her teeth into a fraudster like the ebay scammer who sent a photo of a mobile phone and not an actual phone. (It's up on Youtube.)

Cannot claim knowledge of the show or person, but it sounds as though given your last sentence (sic) Ms Judy may be no fool in getting carried away with her passion. A ready-made audience indeed.
PingDit 4th Oct 2007, 14:35 Binos,
Just imagine a rabid mormon frocked dwarf.......
frostbite 4th Oct 2007, 17:08 "mormon frocked"
Is that a designer label?
merlinxx 5th Oct 2007, 02:58 Hey yous, leave me Mum out of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOLF_BRAVO_ZULU 5th Oct 2007, 11:25 Don't you just love it when one types (with one finger, in my case!) a long response to a Thread to find that it has not just been locked but has completely bloody disappeared! From Rumours and News to Jet Blast to Gash Bin in one day.
Sorry for briefly aligning with this Thread's title.
