I was the last Sumburgh Radar controller (131.3) to talk to Bristow SAR Formation this morning/afternoon......

After being dangled out the back of OC for fun last year (armpits hurt for a few days for being a big Ba****d ) and meeting the crew, it was pretty sad to se the ever faithful S61's head south today.

So i take it HL and MU will be operating from sumburgh until the shiney new toys arrive next year. Has CHC bought these from BHL or are they on lease. I was uder the impression some irish registered a/c were on their way over for the meantime.....

Any more pics would be great of the formation or heli's over the last few weeks.... may look good on a wall in the tower in ABZ...

I have some more pics from the formation flying this morning but unfortunately I choose the wrong viewing area. :ugh: I thought they might have set off on 15 due to the wind direction, only dawned on me afterwards that they were nearly certain to fly by the hangar.
By then it was too late.

There were quite a few spectators snapping away down at the hangar though so I will wait and see what crops up before posting any more.

OK, one more just incase. Here is OC doing one last circuit before setting off South.

Below is OC doing some circuits last Thursday.

CHC are leasing BIMU and BBHL from Bristows for the duration of the Transition. Irish a/c staying put but the operation is under the Irish AOC. S92 and AW139 will operate under the UK AOC.

If Hotel Lima is in Sumburgh and Mike Uniform is still in Stornoway covering night standby while the S92 crews get night confident, what is Sumburgh doing about all weather/ fully coupled cover???

LC and OC outside the hangar certainly brings back memories, not to mention the Bristow Bar in the Sumburgh Hotel annexe, and offcourse the wonderful mouthwatering meals at the SH, mind you breakfast was pretty good, but I think that the girls prepared that, Charlie the Chef didn't surface till later on in the day.
Africacorps mentioned Alistair Handley with a RIP!! did Alistair pass away????
Good luck to all the guys up in Sumburgh.
Slainte,
TC
