Should be able to glide with wings like those. (Not very far mind...)

With Rutan's common sense input, the Moller design at least starts to looks practical now. I'm curious how long those rotors stay tucked away in the fuselage.

I wonder if Rutan is toying with the idea of entering the rotorwing arena? Any more info, Monk?

Probably could glide, just thinking about the engine failure in the hover case - no ejection option like the Harrier. Wouldn't fancy falling from 100 ft in it.

Nick,

You're not alone in looking for that thing.

I know Burt Rutan and he is about as far from Paul Moller as can be.

Burt is a quiet do-er, soft spoken, who usually stands next to his groundbreaking design AFTER it has flown into space or shattered a world record. Burt's designs leave the world shaking their heads and asking, "Why didn't I think of that? How did he make the rules bend so effortlessly?" His engineering is as clean and uncontroversial as it is workable.

Moller has amassed 25 years of press bumph about something just around the corner, seeking publicity and money prior to any achievement. Moller leaves the experts laughing, as yet another reporter is sucked into his mindless, groundless, data-less world.

I seem to remember that Rutan does all his calculations in his head and there is no computer in sight of his office. Or simply put he is a genius like other and we he pops his clocks the world is the poorer.
