Just out of curiosity, do cabin crew need a type rating (just like flight crew), or can they work on both A310 and B737 for example?
And about flight crew type ratings, do they ever expire?

CAA allows cabin crew to be licenced on up to three aircraft. Pilots and cabin crew have to fly on their aircraft regularly to keep in licence.

In the UK, cabin crew may be 'licensed' (but I suggest 'trained' as a better term), but they don't have a CAA issued licence.

Again, in the UK, afaik, Flight Crew licences will show any type rating until the last aircraft of the type is withdrawn from the register. The validity of the rating/permission to fly the aircraft is subject routine testing typically lasting 6/12 months.

All an abridged guide ......

Thanks for the quick replies. One more question though, why does the CAA only allow training/licencing up to three aircraft, and not more?

Sik

It's all about knowing / remembering different locations from emergency equipment and the drills on different aircraft.

It is not quite as restrictive as it at first appears. The A318/319/320/321 is one type, as are all the variants of B737.

As mentioned above, the Uk allows for 3 different "type ratings" for cabin crew, however The Netherlands only allows 2. Found this out when a frind who works for BMI had to drop off the A330 list when the B767 came in from Arkefly, so he was only licenced for the 767 and A32X family.

Is it true that the B757 and B767 come under the same type-rating?

And will 747-400 type-rated pilots be able to fly the 747-800 when it's released?

Nic

The original post is about CABIN CREW!

However, for PILOTS

1. 757/767 can be dual rated
2. 747-400 and -800 will probably the same - dual rated.

I believe that you have to/will have to do alternating sim checks.

Thanks! (and sorry for asking about pilots).
