Providing the mod lets this post stay on...

What do you chaps favor when it's whistle-wettin' time?

A dram of scotch with a little water...some cheap bourbon the same way...mighty fine to my way of thinking.

What do you all (southern-speak) say?

Large cup of tea in a bone-china mug. strong, splash of milk and three sugars. Best drink in the world! Especially the first cup of the day!

Failling that

Shiraz
Chablis
Champagne
Gin (Bombay Sapphire) and tonic
Rum (Pussers) and shrub
Real Ale (Adnam's Broadside)
Stowford Press Cider
Singapore Slings
Pimm's No.1
Amarula Cream
Whiskey Mac (Note correct sp)
Brandy Sours

...have I missed anything?

Cheers

A nice cuppa tea, only one sugar though these days and semi-skimmed too.

The stronger stuff is reserved for days when I'm NOT a helicopter pilot. Then a real ale goes down well, no favourites. I usually try the guest ale at the local (and these days I walk there and back, or the old push bike at worst).

Off duty it's Caffrey's Bitter in the UK, bottled or canned Heineken, Becks or whatever else is available abroad.

On duty white coffee with one sugar.

jessie13, at least our beer has alcohol in it, not like that yellow p*%s you guys call Lager !! :p :ok:

Those Ozzies who can't spell drink Castlemaine XXXX but when in Oz you can't beat a throat thumping Australian Shiraz. From my experience Ozzies don't drink a lot of beer, the pubs close too early.

Isn't Castlemaine Chinese owned ?? Not really an Ozzie beer then.........

And nobody who knows beer calls Fosters Lager real beer !!

Black coffee, preferably Colombian, freshly ground, freshly brewed, no milk or sugar to pollute it.

If I'm not flying, a glass of white wine is very nice.

The occasional pint of lager to keep my friends company...what does that say about my friends?

Bacardi and coke if I want something stronger.

But I really prefer the black coffee - and not for the caffeine, just the taste. :ok:

Only a wannabe here - but nothing beats my Saturday and Sunday morning brews made by the missus - tea with honey (no milk) accompanied by vegemite on toast.

If I'm forced to make my own brew, then it’s regular tea, milk and 2 sweeteners.

Otherwise any/all of these - Guinness, Carling, Brandy and red wine - go down a treat.

Nah, can't stand the stuff - has a nasty habit of repeating!

Besides, that's a bit rich coming from someone who's pubs only stay open for about 2 hours!

Don't waste your time pouring your Avgas or JetA1 back into the tanks after doing your daily inspection and risk contamination. Straight down the hatch, it also provides a 4th safety check. 1, right colour. 2, Right smell. 3, No water. 4. Right TASTE!:yuk:

Now where did I put my cigarettes!!

The 6 o'clock swill finished February 1955. Pubs stay open quite a bit later these days :p

Are you sure that's why you were kicked out? ;)

YES!!!! They were putting chairs on the tables, people were leaving, glasses were being collected, lights were being dimmed, floors were being swept. Y'know, I'm quite sensitive and can pick up on these signals. Plus, the words, "Drink up, we're closing!" were a bit of a give away.

Have only been asked to leave a pub once! :O

First thing in the morning when still trying to ungum the ancient peepers it's strong Glengettie tea, with a small teaspoon of honey. On arrival at work it's a large cup of strong black coffee (either Rwanda Maraba Bourbon or fresh-ground Camerounian). During the hot days it's bottled water and ginger tea when I'm flying. Then in the evening if I'm in UK in the summer it's Chimay Bleue or Tripel beer (but only 1 glass) and at other times of the year or out here in Africa, normally South African red wine. In Nigeria that usually means a cheap but reliable Drostdy-Hof Claret or Merlot and back home a nice Fairview Goat Roti Paarl or maybe a nice Mulderbosch faithful Hound, but I alwasy like to try something new.

" ... floors were being swept ..."

Are you sure it was a pub? - real Sydney pubs have tiled walls and are washed down with a hose!:)

Jack

PS My favourite other than than Glenmorangie with an equal measure of water and NO ICE, or a really good Merlot, is one shot golden rum, one shot Cointreau, topped up with cranberry juice and lots of ice. Try it - it tastes a lot better than it probably sounds!

PPS And Glenm is pronounced as if it was spelled with two "r's" and absolutely nothing to do with an abbreviation of Angela .....

PPPS White Bacardi is not for serious rum drinkers - the only white rum worth drinking is Stubbs's Queensland rum.

I wouldn't call it my favourite, but I was working in the north of Sweden this year and the local potato based brew certainly left an impression.....

On a more civilised note, Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish is the one for me, or Yorkshire Tea Bags if I need to remain in control of the shutter.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean - you think it's gone forever then just like a non-returnable bottle, it's back. :hmm:

These days I'm afraid that age has matured my tastes somewhat.

Campari tonic - aperatif
Glass of something red from Piedmont (Barbera, Barolo)
Courvoisier or Grand Duc, am still looking for the right Grappa.

I can get the best cappuco and brioche in the world 2 minutes from my front door.

A bottle of Lagavulin (16 years not the younger rubbish) shouldalways be kept in the cupboard for medicinal purposes.

Of course when I am back home in Cornwall a pint of Tinner's goes down well - but only the one!

:)

This is a lovely tonic for a headcold,

Brandy or Cognac, a good slug of fresh lemon juice and boiling hot water, about equal amounts of each. Sort of like a big boys lemsip. Not sure if it works, but it sure clears the sinuses:)

It used to be the Red Fred, but a visit a few months ago made me wonder why we bothered

But I did enjoy a revisit to a pint of Spingo :ok: And a few pints of quite a variety of other decent ales unknown to the Antipodes :p
