Now, I know I'm getting old and senile, but I could have sworn that in response to General Sir R D's calls the other day the Royal Mail agreed to provide free postage to the Stan and Iraq until crimbo at least, with further free postage on the cards. So was somewhat surprised when, buoyed by this I went to send a parcel to an oppo at BFPO 772 (or similar, somewhere in the 'Stan at any rate!) weighing in well under the 2kg limit (700g iirc) and was charged 2 quid 60 for the privelege...

Was I ripped off or have I gone barking mad? Polite answers on a postcard to BFPO 999 please!

Free mail to UK Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan
From Monday 3rd September 2007, customers can send items to friends and family serving in Iraq and Afghanistan for free. At least the post office guy in our village(Ilchester) told my wife to wait until Monday to post a 2 kg box out to son number 1 rather than charging her and saying nothing, well done that man:D
