Rafale Trapped (On Video)

Posted by RW at 7/30/2007 6:57 AM

Last week we reported here (http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/blogs/defense/index.jsp?plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3a27ec4a53-dcc8-42d0-bd3a-01329aef79a7Post%3a3346c464-8a32-4004-8608-e66c037e1b25) on the first landing of the French navy Rafale F2 fighter on the USS Enterprise. The French are looking for ways to maintain their carrier operating proficiency as their own carrier, the Charles de Gaulle, is in overhaul. In addition to the pictures we posted last week, the French navy has now posted a video (http://www.defense.gouv.fr/marine/base/mediatheque/videos/rafale_sur_uss_enterprise) of the Rafale and one of its E-2Cs participating in the excursion.

Has CdeG ever worked for a serious period of time? Seems like most of the time it makes the news is because something broke...

Having lived & worked with the French - in this case a 128' hotel barge which had an all British crew ( except for the chef ) in Burgundy, + sailing around Brittany in my boat - the French know far more than Brits' about how to live, while it seems we are good at fighting only.

As this is still peacetime for us lucky types by dint of others' sacrifice, I think the frogs have got it right-maybe they could wheel out the C de G if anything nasty happened, at least they have a carrier air group, which we don't...
