View Full Version : Typhoon scramble..
.. from today's ripsnorter of a right royal riveting read, the Lincs Echo.

Apart from the fact the chaps with spanners were clearly waiting for the off, was there no meeja handler around to ensure that the hapless erk who scattered paper infront of the intake was given a summary execution, and the whole thing wasn't reduced to total farce? All they needed was a ladder on someone's shoulder to swing around, a landrover with exploding doors and bonnet and a bucket of wallpaper paste to put their feet in.
Of more serious note, today's screamer offered somewhat graver news about a Waddington airman jailed for getting a schoolgirl pregnant. What with the Wittering debacle recently, it hasn't been a good month all in all for domestic coverage.

Great News!
4 Mins to scramble, provided the line team is waiting outside the HAS. Truely awsome, scrap the F3 now, and put a lot of QRA crews out of their misery! (By the way, with only 2 pilots, who does the Crypto Cx, and who knows how to open the Can? !!!) :suspect:

Nice vid, shame about the fod hazard, but you can't execute the "erk" for dropping the paper in front of the engine intake, as he was the one that was supposed to be driving it!
Oops:uhoh:
Like coiled springs, the UKs air defence capability is maintained by qualified tradesmen of the highest order :}.

"Like coiled springs . . ."
What, you mean like all wound up?
:E
Like.. like a drawer full of newly sharpened blades, like.. a freshly tuned engine. :E
Al R,
Nice to see that you got a Photo of the MoD staff in Whitehall (is that the Procurement Desk)?, that are running us all now, believe me as a tradesman that is not a true reflection of us poor bods that are working are a:mad:e's off at the moment to please this bunch of clowns
Or am I wrong isn't that the COBRA meeting held recently?:p
ZOFO,
Didn't it used to be that COBRA met with as much regularlity as AIDU doing a fitness test? Now, they're at it every 5 minutes. I know that tradesmen work hard, I like the humour and wonder why they ever got rid of Flems.. although one old CT turning up for GDT with a bobble hat did raise at least one of my eyebrows.

Well there you go. Some poor sod (who looked like he was in need of some "remedial") goes and drops some papers, probably his PVR paperwork, in front of the jet on a scramble. Still looks that he was handily placed when the hooter went off along with his oppoes.:hmm:
Was it not in his Sqn's tor's and Eng Orders (mind the human rights though) about FOD control on the line, or was that something else that was written out of JAP at the senior services bequest (as they obviously knew best at the time):ugh: (Yes I do know the answer, the secrets in the detail before you flame)
Still not like the old days when the unfortunate wpns 1 and man b left some highly effective countermeasures fitted to the front of the sraam's on a NQRA 'toom, pity the crew tried to impress the bear crew with a fly by with the caps fitted. OC Arm was not impressed with the subsequent LR/nylon rope based removal method.:= Ho Hum less speed more haste (or vice versa if you are antipoedean)
It's a team effort right? [Yes it was laughable, but these jokers also service your cabs, who has the last laugh now?]:*

It's the pilot dropping the paperwork (clue: he's the one wearing the flying suit and no tabard!)

212 is right by God! I have never seen a better scramble in my life! The aircrew even took time to give the erks a quick practical demo of what 'could' happen if you don't secure your pockets.
Fantastic! Makes me all proud inside...........
Gulp.

Not seen the video but are we sure its not someone burning the secret papers cos he didn't know where the shredder was?
All that technology on display, surely the pilot wasn't carrying map sheets to place inside his canopy? ..was he?

I was about to ask what that paperwork is actually likely to be...

That was the Worst display of a q scramble I have ever seen. I have been there, done that on the rare occasions Leeming had Q. A team of monkeys could have done better.

Has anyone told the Gruadian newspaper that the "Cold war" Typhoon might just have arrived at the right time?

Oh the irony
Cheers

I anticipate the line from the Gruadian to be more along the lines of "BAe pays for Russian incursions to protect Tranche 3 sales, another government cover-up".

I haven't seen a scramble that professional since 284 Sqn went on detachment to RAF Sculthorpe!

That was the most enjoyable part of the whole 3 weeks IIRC, watching overweight SNCOs pretending to be aircrew sweating like buggery as you strapped them in. Making them wait for start-up was real pay back time, especially on a red hot summers day.
