A group of us (about 15 or so) like to have a city break towards the end of January. We go out Friday PM, return Sun PM, flying LOCO. Biggest problem is one of us who cannot finish work early on the Friday, meaning we need a flight after about 1700, tho not too late as we like to get to the destination for dinner and a few beers.

We are about equidistant from BXH and EMA, a bit easier to EMA if anything, and we have used CVT the last couple of times. We are now looking for a destination for January 2008. We don't really care too much about where we go - we will have a good time anyway, but would prefer not to return to somewhere we have been recently. It would be ideal if we could see a list of departures from each airport for the period of, say, 1700 - 2000 on Friday evenings. I have not been able to find a website that has this info, so I always end up searching individual airlines (and often their timetables are not a lot of help - you have to select departure and destination before you can see flight times).

Any suggestions on a better way to find suitable destinations?

It doesn't completely fulfil your search criteria but skyscanner.net offers a weekend break search function where you can select departure airport and weekend and leave the destination blank. Will then display a list of destinations available and price from your departure airport (search covers locos not legacy/scheduled airlines).

You'd still have to check the flight times on each selection but makes for an interesting "pick & mix" :)

Unfortunately not. The greatest product ever for this was Goldenware Electronic Travel Desk, a complete database of scheduled flights including the low-costs and minor airlines which had an excellent search that could show just what you describe. You could download the whole thing every month (about 15mb) to your notebook and use it away from any web connection.

Alas they got taken over by American Express SkyGuide, who ruined it.

No good for future dates, but http://fids.oag.com/fids/customers/demo/admin.asp will list what's going in and out at just about any airport.
Select BHX for example, then select Departures on the resulting page. Only covers a few hours at a time from now though.

Bear in mind that some carriers will only have provisional schedules for January and these 'may be subject to change'.

Am only too aware of that, Paxboy. BMIBaby have just cancelled some flights to Rome in October, and offerred us alternatives. Having paid for the hotels already we have had to accept the alternative flights, which now means missing an event we'd planned to go to in UK. Anybody want two tickets for Cirque du Soleil in Birmingham??
