An interesting article that highlights the difference between fortitude and morale - you never hear a politician coming back from Basra or Helmand and talking about anything else but morale do you? Perhaps the problem is that we are fed on a diet of 'quick wins' by our Government and what we are seeing is involvement in 2 counter insurgency campaigns which require a degree of application that is beyond our modern political leaders. Helmand and Iraq will not be quick wins - perhaps the best thing we could do is include the Taliban and the AIF on the distribution for all the current good ideas - they'll soon be bogged down with LEAN processes, managing their financial trajectories (what used to be known as 'budgets') and holding meetings for meetings' sake that they won't have time for anything other than a few cosmetic operations...
