View Full Version : Spouse / Dependant definition
Hi
Looking over the allowances with CX regarding health benefits and travel and it relates to your spouse or dependant as if you are married. If you are not married ie engaged, and they have a child from a precious relationship are they classed as spouse / dependant or are they not entitled to the benefits.

Sorry Mate. Not married, she is a nobody and not entitled to any benefits. You may be able to put her on your travel companion list.
If you do get married I am not sure about the child. You may have to adopt the child legally. I am not sure about this.
When you do have it set up, you are limited to a certain amount a day. You will most likely need extra medical insurance from somewhere in case your wife or child has an accident. You have a limit and it can be reached very quickly in Hong Kong. You as the employee may have a limit, but not sure.
I am sure some on this forum have extra insurance and could let you know.

CX do not currently recognise De Facto or Engaged. Your partner and her child will be covered once you are married. You can get staff travel for her earlier through 'travel companion' but that will not extend to her child. Also it is a lower travel priority.

You will get full education allowances, once your are married, for her dependent.
Bloggs brings up a very good point. Currently, CX covers dependants for an amount that contributes to emergency hospital care. To give you a widely reviewed example...a spouse needing an emergency operation can cost you $100K+ as it did a friend because she couldn't last till she got to australia according to the specialist. So where ever you are living, get some private dependant medical coverage,
