does it matter which aircraft you use when doing your ppl? I have been offered Jabiru 160 at a school in capetown and offered Cessena 150/152 at another school in Durban.

I can't think of any occasion where it would make a difference (other than cost) - especially at PPL level. Even at CPL level as long as it ticks the boxes (wobbly prop, retracting gear etc) the specific type is pretty much irrelevant.

Far more important is the quality of instruction - see if you can find anything about the schools respective reputations.
