Okay,
Quick background for everyone who doesn't know how the BBC functions in the UK. It is paid for by everyone who owns a TV (officially) paying a TV licence of varying costs depening on age, disability, whether one has a B/W TV or not etc.

Blue peter is a very popular children's programme and they had a phone in competition recently. When they realised that they mistakenly didn't have a winner, they got a child who was in the studio at the time to 'phone in' and won the prize.

This got out, and the BBC eventually got fined £50,000 for the first time in its history.

Which means a precedent has been set and so the BBC could be fined quite easily again in the future.

Seeing as the BBC is publicly funded (through our TV licence), does that mean that the TV licence fee will now have to go up over and above the usual yearly increase to cover other fines that may be around.

So whilst the BBC have been fined, it's joe public that ends up paying for it.
And where does the fine go, back to the beeb?? the NHS?? the treasury chest. Is it basically another tax??

Sneaky gits:=:=

The fine was £45,000 for the initial 'con' and an extra £5000 for the repeat.

Maybe, they get an extra fine if someone mentions it.....

So the fine goes into the treasury's coffers, Auntie Beeb has even less money to make decent programmes (as if they would anyway) and then needs a higher licence fee to make up for it all. :* :(

I think they should just confiscate their badges or ban them from museums for a year

All these fines get annouced but are they actaully transacted at the end of the day. Perhaps te fine is embedded in some form of artistic accounting practice? Maybe the BBC get to call upon extra funds due to a £50,000 shortfall ;) In other words the punishment hasn't really hit them, just another drama episode for all to see = fiction :ok:

I agree Mr. Draper the Beeb is most certainly taking the piss, just read through the biographies of some of their presenters, reads like a list of labour back office researchers :*

A purely symbolic fine......and the court knows it. The embarrassment will hit harder than the money.

Blue Peter is far from fine these days, a pale picture of its former self!

Even ITV's copy attempt with Magpie featuring Green Nigel was better!

What's a tv licence?Come along now, try to keep up.

A TV Licence is the means by which the BBC makes its customers pay fines imposed on the BBC when it screws up.

" Well, as you all know by know, some of our staff were rather naughty children and we are going to be showing you all what happens to them shortly. Before we do though, here's a couple we summarily flogged and excuted earlier. And remember, please don't try to make the gallows at home children, you do need and adult to help you here...and yes, the very best designs for this, and the electric chair we showed earlier, will get a Blue Peter badge of course ". :E

Wel it would probably improve the ratings ..........

Val Singleton had a fine set of legs,I think the BBC should do more legs, it might help restore their tarnished reputation.

Shep would be turning in his grave.
Tortoise can't turn over though, so he'll just lie there in contempt.
