View Full Version : Broadband enabled?

I have been asked to sort out a problem on a (very) elderly ladies computer.

I set it all up for her on broadband some time ago and it has been running fine. Now she can't get connected.

She tells me there was a fault on her line which BT fixed (massive clue?) but isn't sure if that was when the trouble started. I'm sure if I call BT the answer will be that broadband is enabled, but is there any way I can check?

I do not have a spare modem to try.

I would try the basics first - are the leads still in securely (PC, modem and filter). Try a different filter (cheap). Check the lights on the router. If you have no spare to try, then probably best to contact ISP next (yes, I know that can take time and money) as they can check to see if the problem is with their or your friend's equipment or BT. BT won't action broadband faults without the say so of the ISP anyway. If ISP says it's likely to be a modem fault, then at least you will know!

Using this http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php will tell you if a BB service is still enabled on that phone line

Thanks but I do all the basics as SOP.

ISP is BT.

Unless I've missed it, that site just gives availability, not status.
