Understand the last flying Canadair CL-44 was lost in a forced landing near Mbuji Mayi, Congo on Feb 17th. apparently following an engine failure and control difficulties. Fortunately no fatalities or serious injuries - some minor.

Does anyone know who was operating it at the time?

Thanks, I've been travelling and missed the original thread.

Good job Ceildh, spent 3 months flying out of Kinshasa training local pilots on a DC-9-30 while doing DRC military contract flying and it was like a time warp back to the 40's. Maybe more like Biafra.

Was this particular CL44 used by ChurchAid during the Biafra crisis ?.

I believe the a/c was opertated by Mike Snow, part owner of the a/c. Apparently he was flying some mercandise into DRc. At one stage he was supporting UNITA rebels in Angola. Flying "equipment" into Charlie 2. Glad to hear nobody got killed in the accident
