This LOSA stuff confuses me. When all the flights are complete and the data analysed, do EK management HAVE to implement the changes suggested in the feedback report, or is it a smoke and mirrors process for the airline 'to be seen' to be doing the right thing, but actually doing nothing?
Serious answers please cos' 'I'd like to know' :).

There was another thread all about this earlier - but can't find it again.
You are correct in the fact that the LOSA findings / report do not have any bearing on the company ie managment do not have to take any action or notice of the recommentdations. There is the usual 'be seen to be doing the right thing' attitude, but in reality do nothing. The LOSA guys say that the report is put into the public domain and so it is in EK's best interest to do somthing about the report. I however feel it is more that they can show the plaque on the wall at HQ to say they've been part of LOSA along with some of the otehr more serious airlines.
I still think that you don't need to get airborne at EK to find deficiencies / potential problems, you can see them in the rostering / hours / training. I discussed this with a LOSA guy who was due to come on one of my flights and he agreed with the points I raised and in the end he didn't join us.
I actually think in general the flying part of EK once airborne is still of a pretty high standard and I hope that it stays that way. Let's hope they don't let the standards drop, but unfortunately with some of the recent intakes I've seen recently it will take a lot of work to keep the standards high and LOSA is not going to help that in any way!!!(purely a personal view)

KD I agree.. Was asked by the LOSA guy on my flight to send him my thoughts, but thought it would be a waste of time and never did.
The company policy restricting hand flying and not being able to practice NPA's then sending you out to fly Non Precision Approaches in challenging environments and weather is one of the biggest threats we have to deal with on the line.
Shame the guys who make these policies do not fly the line when its dark and stormy just to see what they have created.

KD - Good question, found myself asking the same.
Don't get me wrong - I strongly believe in the process. It is well tested, robust and has proven to make a difference. Not only in the US, but also at CX, SQ and most of all QF - where it initially caused much grief but is now recognised as having been a VGT.
But it will (hopefully) show where EK is vulnerable. This is not something that our Dear Leaders like to know about. It will be a rude shock and might lead to a bloodletting as it did in QF some years ago.
(In fact, the main reason the previous LOSA (2002?) got canned was that MQ saw what happened dunnunda and wanted to keep his job. Fat lot of good that did him in the long run.)
So maybe it will mean the end of TCAS, Ed and the merry gang. Or they will brush it under the carpet and fire the poor guy (not moi) who talked them into doing it.
Either way, it should ne interesting. Keep discovering eh?:E

Didn't even know it was still going. Did it finish and if not, when does it? Thought it might have been binned due lack of resources or interest.
