Has anyone in country or otherwise heard anymore about the demise of Jonas S? Just read that his final battle call was down in the SE. Is there any news on the (dis)continuation of the war and/or changes afoot to the UN/ICRC work out of Lovely Luanda/Lobito and Beautiful Benguela? What's the general feeling?

The news article reported gunfire and and rejoicing in the streets of Luanda... but then how do you tell which is which?

Yes it is true that Savimbi has been killed. At this stage I doubt that you will see any changes. There has been a rift within UNITA for some time and there is a dissident faction lead by General Manuwalcola(Spelling?)Apparently Antonio Denabo has resumed leadership of UNITA. UNITA has already resumed fighting in Malange. That said, UNITA hasn't updated their web-site since the begining of Feb.

What about the operation of fuel tankers with the new company.I read in climbto350 that they are looking for 727 with FAA.. .Any chance to contact with them and ask about if they accept JAA?. .Any notice will be welcomed.

ITN:

I spoke with the DO of the operation. There has been a change of ownership and some wrong doing. Has been set back for a few months, maybe permanently. The DO I spoke with is now no longer involved, got fed up and discussded(sp) by it all. I am not holding out too much hope.

Best regards,

Darn, too bad. I was holding out hope that I might make a connection there. I heard that 2 crews were headed over in a week. . .Well, another dead end.

It is now rumoured that Antonio Dembo has been killed aswell? If this is true, another blow for UNITA..

Seems that the situation will not change, UNITA has captured Mundombe in Huambo Province. Nobody seems sure about who is now running the show??
