View Full Version : rex interview rexpilot 25th Jun 2007, 10:42 what do they ask and what do i need to know? First interview Paul Alfred 25th Jun 2007, 12:23 I'm not sure mate but maybe try and be a little bit more polite with your direct question especially when its your first post:ok: I'm sure this has been asked before and one of the helpful ppruners will leave an appropriate response!;) And I do like the name you have chosen, you must already be confident enough that you have the job...go get em! :) Cheers, PA Bendo 25th Jun 2007, 13:11 Tech quiz: know how to use a whiz wheel (some basic stuff in there), know your abbreviations per AIP, know how to do a CP calculation. A basic loading/flight planning scenario is given with a number of SF340 rego's and BEWs. TIP: use the right BEW for the aircraft in question. Sim: Done in the Metro Sim, 2-crew, you + another candidate. Fairly thorough briefing given by an experienced Metro check captain who seemed pretty relaxed and very happy to answer other questions once the brief was over. You can fly from either seat and the instructor will pause the sim while you swap the LHS if you want. You basically take off, climb out, do some turns, do an NDB intercept and the EN NDB (RWY 25?) approach. You are then re-positioned to intercept finals for an ILS, no landing required. Three words - Attitude - Power - Performance. ...and three more: scan, scan, scan. If you are PNF, try to make sure your PF doesn't get himself into trouble - give the std calls regarding "height", "speed" etc. If you can afford it, splash out the $650 odd and have a practice the day before. Unlike QF (who reckon it as cheating) they seem to actually approve and view it as showing commitment. Make sure you are well presented at the Sim center, even for the practice session; I was in clean jeans, polished boots and a good shirt and still felt decidedly uncomfortable when we ran into the Chief Pilot! :uhoh: Tie might be appropriate. Didn't seem to hold that against me, if he remembered :ok: Interview: I had the CP plus two other top-level checkies for my interview. I hesitate to say "it is just a chat" (no interview ever is) but they certainly were anxious that I would relax and be at ease. Know your Jepps/DAPs and make sure you know what all the symbols mean. Know your current aircraft. Know the company. Yes you can make a mistake and no it won't sink you. TURN YOUR MOBILE PHONE OFF!!! := Peter Fanelli 25th Jun 2007, 13:34 1st interview? Well I was asked what I'd do if the captain picked his nose, and what would I do if the captain announced he was going below minimums on the approach into Mt Gambier. Actually, to be fair that wasn't Rex, that was Kendell in Adelaide. Tee Emm 25th Jun 2007, 14:00 Unlike QF (who reckon it as cheating) I heard the opposite. The comment being the candidate showed enthusiasm and keeness otherwise he would not have bothered to fork out the $800 - $1000 needed to buy a practice simulator session on jet technique before the interview. It pays to be totally honest in this regard because the Qantas/Virgin Blue assessing captain will soon pick up if you have previously had a crack at the simulator. A37575 25th Jun 2007, 14:03 Well I was asked what I'd do if the captain picked his nose, That figures. Kendalls always did conduct really high class intellectual type interviews.:yuk: ForkTailedDrKiller 25th Jun 2007, 14:05 "know how to do a CP calculation" Hmmmmm! Interesting! How do you do a Chief Pilot calculation ? Dr:cool: The Kavorka 26th Jun 2007, 00:17 Ask them why they pay their pilots less than someone who works at Bunnings!!!:ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh: My advice, hold out for vb/jq their min's are dropping all the time... aero979 26th Jun 2007, 00:44 out of interest, would anyone mind giving a ball park figure on the salary? questil 26th Jun 2007, 02:06 I think a senior captain (say 10 yrs is in the high 70s) new hires prob 38 to a max of 55 after 5 yrs the wizard of auz 26th Jun 2007, 03:12 Gotta wonder why you would do it. I'm currently driving a roadtrain and am receiving 118K PA (plus a bunch of allowances). I can get more if I pick up the spanners again. downside is I pay half of it to the taxman. :{:ugh: buggered if I would be doing all that hard yakka and spending all them hard earned $$$$ to get $38K Pa job. Islander Jock 26th Jun 2007, 04:25 I'm with you Wiz. I really feel for the guys who have made the sacrifices and commitment to get to that level which is just not reflected in the salaries on offer. Bendo, TURN YOUR MOBILE PHONE OFF!!! Nah leave it on, really adds to the excitement when it goes of at DA with a failed engine :E farrari 26th Jun 2007, 04:54 Most of those so called Senior managers at Rex wouldn't know if their rear was on fire, appallingly useless. I feel much better now as I got some back on them by buying shares at $1.10 and selling at $2.68, an increase over 140%. :E neville_nobody 26th Jun 2007, 05:32 buggered if I would be doing all that hard yakka and spending all them hard earned $$$$ to get $38K Pa job. Hence the problem with Australian Aviation. It has been in the past very hard and expensive to get jobs and ultimately noone wants to spend $70 000ish dollars plus 5 years of your life just to get paid $10000 less than the national average wage. If REX want to keep staff they are going to have to start paying some decent money. Few people are going to bust their asses in GA, moving around the country so they can be a SAAB pilot on 40 000 odd thousand a year. Ultimately it is just another step. High-Bypass 26th Jun 2007, 05:57 Are they interviewing YOU for a job, or are you interviewing THEM for your services???? Just casually walk in, sit down, take a small sip of water, clear your throat, lean forward slightly and ask.... "So tell me Captain/General Manager, why should someone with my level of skill and experience (as much or as little as it maybe), come work for your company as opposed to another one?" empty kitchen 26th Jun 2007, 06:37 Rex, leave your mobile on and when it rings dismiss it with a comment about how VB just wont take no for an answer. I had an interview 18 months ago. They picked an aircraft I had not flowen for 10 years and asked V speeds? Didnt want to know anything about current plane I was flying. In all the interview was extremly unprofessional, the questions not relevant (I still dont know the expected share up take of the public float) and compared to the current VB, J* interveiws not in the same league. Still one of the better airlines to get a start in. Good luck halfmoon 27th Jun 2007, 01:07 I have an interview there next week. Anyone got anymore info on the tech quiz and interview. What the heck is a CP calculation anyway? thanks for the other stuff aero979 27th Jun 2007, 01:18 CP = Critical point! ATPL nav! flyhardmo 27th Jun 2007, 01:30 [QUOTE]CP = Critical point! ATPL nav!QUOTE] Bull$h!t its CPL NAV. You learn how to do it engine out in ATPL and how to do CP off track. If you don't know how to calculat CP or PNR go and review your theory. It has helped me on many occasions. aero979 27th Jun 2007, 01:41 sorry about that, i remember doing it at some stage! The Kavorka 27th Jun 2007, 06:18 High-Bypass, Spot on................. These idiots in management at REX are trying evrything to keep pilot numbers other than offer a pay increase.... Supply has finally got below demand and now these crooks are feeling the pinch... How can they justify paying a professional airline pilot $40000 a year after they have been in the industry for around 5-10 years. I, like many others worked my ass off to get to a regional and then they turn around and give you a disgusting wage.. I'm really gald the horse has bolted and they soon will suffer what they deserve..:mad: I also hear that the CP had a meeting with the Transport Minister the other day to try and get flying traning on Hecs to increase the pilot numbers...Too late CH, you should have pressured that P%$ch M%%ey ages ago to give the crews a decent living...:ugh::ugh: If they offer you an interview name your price and if the don't want to "SHOW YOU THE MONEY" turn your mobile on and answer the call from VB/JQ and many others. porch monkey 27th Jun 2007, 10:29 OI! Careful who you call a porch monkey!!!! I don't work there!!! The Kavorka 27th Jun 2007, 23:44 Sorry P.M... I'll bet your glad you don't work there!!!! |
