EMB-145s in Africa.....

I heard a rumor from a friend of mine that there is a small airline looking for E-145 typed pilots somewhere in Africa. Any truth to that rumor? If so, where, for how much, and who can apply? Things aren't looking so good here in the States for the next couple of years. It may be time for a leave to try something new for a while. (BTW, 5200TT, 2500 E145, 1100 PIC in it).

My guess is that would be SA Airlink, which operates regional services based out of Johanneburg. Managing Director is Rodger Foster, a decent bloke.

Could be Ghana Airways. They were looking at ERJ's to replace their clapped out DC9-51 on routes from Accra (ACC).

They have had idea's for hub network based on ACC for some time but the DC9 was
a. too big (112 seats) when normal west african loads are around 25-35
b. very costly to operate (especially when they didn't put the wheels down)

However on the down side the ERJ145 IMHO has a too small baggage capacity for passengers interlining (especially the amount passengers to ACC take).

Flight International report that Luxair are selling a couple of ERJ145 that don't fit their fleet profile and 1 is going to a company in Guinee (don't have the name as someone has filched my copy).
