How do I find my Internet Address ?
It seems I am the victim of Credit Card fraud and, under pressure, my card provider is investigating and asking for my Internet address.
I have a pretty conventional system with a desktop hard wired to a Belkin Router and a wireless connected Laptop. My provider is BTinternet.
The router reports several addresses, some of which I know are the network structure, it also reports a "WAN IP" address and a "default gateway" one of which I suspect is what I need but which ?

That only shows your IP address at the time you looked, the same applies to what the router reports.

I thought that the IP address was a static thing, you imply that it is not. The C.C. provider are basing their decision on a fraudulent transaction on the IP address provided by me vs the IP address provided by the vendor as the source of the transaction. Could you clarify ?

It might be static, it might not be. Probably not as they don't like giving out static IPs and you generally have to pay extra for one. Unplug your router from the mains and see if you get the same IP address when you plug it back in and it reconnects (which strictly can only prove you do not have a static IP). Your credit card company doesn't sound like it is on the ball.

Don't forget they can look at the 'block' part of the ISP IP and ELIMINATE Wodrick's ISP (hopefully:eek:)

But what does it prove? Wodwick could have gone down to his local easy-cafe, bought time with cash, and used his credit card. Not sure the credit card company has much of a clue. They would need to get the relevant ISP who 'owns' the IP address to look in their logs and see who was allocated that IP address at the time the allegedly fraudulent activity took place.

....let's not depress him TOO much:)

You never know, he might have been on-line with BT at the time the fraud was committed. I had a 'similar' (Casino) hit recently but the 'hit' was traced to Germany and I was in Gambia:ok:

From trying the above it would seem that I have a static IP. Thank you BT.
As yesterday developed my CC provider seemed to acknowledge that there was a difference between BT Internet location Cheshire and Telewest Broadband location Kinloss. As I can prove being at EGCC at 06.45 after a nightshift on the day in question I now expect a favorable outcome.
Thanks for your assistance.
