I work in an office building in Newcastle stashing away my pennies trying to get enough together to do my PPL(H). The people I work with are not particularly interested in flying but we all watched out the windows in awe (when we could see through the freezing rain squalls and low cloud) at the job all the helicopter pilots and crew did today.. truly amazing to watch .. :D

In his old age, nothing suited Igor Sikorsky better than to have SAR chopper pilots come visit & regale him with stories of their 'daring do' rescues.

If you talk to anyone who's been winched to safety, their descriptions of the event always have a common thread of almost divine salvation, whereby this huge skyhook materialises above & plucks you from your predicament.

I've had the good fortune to chat with a few of the pilots involved in the Sydney-to-Hobart yacht race rescues from a few years back, they feel pretty good about things too.

The humanitarian helicopter, long may it hover over us!!
