I have some .pdf files that I require to edit, unfortunately I have lost the original Word files. Can anybody recommend a program that I can use to do this. The cheaper the better, free would be nice:ok:

Thanks for stating the obvious - but I did ask if anyone could "recommend" a program.
ASFKAP & effortless,
Thanks for your input. I'll have a look at Acrobat

Once upon a long time ago, some time in a previous life, I was also tempted to edit a .pdf file using Acrobat (the expensive version).

As I remember it was a kingsize pain in the ass because you could only edit a line at a time (things might have gotten better).

As a suggestion, have you thought about scanning the docs and then using some optical character recognition software to get them into a word document? My last HP all-in-one came with freeware called I.R.I.S. OCR software which I have never had to use - but it looks like it could do the job? web address is www.irislink.com

Just a thought ...

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but if you created the PDFs you're unlikely to have protected them, so you can simply select the text and copy it wherever you want, such as back into Word. You'll lose the formatting.

If you want to edit in situ, try PDFedit over at SourceForge. MicroAdobe also has a commercial editor available as a tryout. I don't know what features the tryout version has.

I find Foxit (free) does the job - http://www.download.com/Foxit-PDF-Reader/3000-2079_4-10313206.html

That said 'Compass Call', if you are sharpish with the editing there is a pre pay evaluation option on this.

I've been using it to edit for a year or so!
