I was tempted, I bought a new computer from Dell, (2Gb RAM and dual core processor 6600 from Intel), with an agreement that, when they had done a complete evaluation, they would issue me the free upgrade from XP to Vista.

Ho bloody Ho!

Using the Dell pre-installation disc all went well and I followed on with the XPPro(SP2) to Vista upgrade. Just a few drivers to be replaced, all taken care of within the upgrade, (or was it?). Became obvious that several other programmes just didn't work, despite what Dell or MS said.
Uninstall programmes and reinstall - some worked but most of the time get the massage that there is a conflicting driver, go to your 'host' website, (Norton, McAfee and many well known others).
Now emails arrive with no text and web sites only provide heading etc.
(Please bear in mind that this is a brand new computer planned to meet the most stringent requirements of the modern day desk top).

Try two attempts at a normal system restore, both failed, tried Norton Ghost, Blue Screen, "we have shut down Windows..............etc."
Eventually the only option offered was a format and clean re-install!!!

The big lesson is to be sure and maintain constant back-ups,:ok:

Interesting, my post has been edited but not by me!
Anyway, back with XP now.

I would say the big lesson is to stick with the devil you know.
