Archimedes posted RAF exchange pilots certainly got kills with the USAF in Korea. John Nicholls (later an AOC in C Strike or something equally important) got the first in December 1952 (after damaging three more).

Obit in today's (21 May) Daily Telegraph.

I'm sure there was a RAF pilot who got a kill or two in the Falklands flying Sea Harriers

Shhhhh, the WAFU won't like cold hard facts like that.

Several actually. Our own Mogwi amongst them.

Didn't an RAF pilot bring down a German helicopter in the 90's?;)

Don't know about that, but an RAF F4 pilot certainly shot down an RAF Jaguar with a Sidewinder in '82!

Amazingly thosen last kills by the RAF took place 25 years ago yesterday, according to the internet, Flt lt Leeming credited with a skyhawk on the 21st may.

Is its just time, or me, but I feel uncomfortable using the word 'Credited' given that Lt Marquez lost his life.

How do the regular fliers cope with that? On the ground all you here about is 'numbers' yet pilots have to live with records showing a name against them.

Any comment?

It comes with the job.

Surely depends upon the individual.

Mannock: "I hope the bastard burns"

Richthoven: Little silver cups to celebrate each kill.

Bader + Galland: Friends after the war.

Also, USAF/RAF attitude thread recently...

Nothing personal, but what do you think Lt Marquez was trying to do? Collect ship's numbers for his spotters books?

No, I think he was just there as a UN observer but forgot to wear his blue beret.

Absolutely right, and probably why I was better employed with my hands in a RADAR cabinet.

Another fact that certain WAFUs often conveniently forget - the highest 'scoring' (and I appreciate that the sentiment of that word may also be questioned) Sea Harrier pilot in the Falklands was an RAF guy on exchange. Stick that on your poop deck and smoke it.

Although he did *cough* later transfer to the FAA.

...having transferred from the FAA to the RAF SH world in the first instance.
