'All subject to availability' made me almost fall off my chair :p

Hm, so no Mig´s or Sukois? Looks pretty one sided to me ;)

Yes visting aircraft are welcome on the morning usually before 9.30am.

Give the gate house a call prior to leaving and let them have your ETA.

The phone number is 0116 2799315

Just called Bruntingthorpe to check and yes, we can land any time up to 1030, using the grass runway only. Departure can be any time. Landing fee is £10 in addition to the £10 charge for the Open Day entrance.

Fingers crossed for the weather

I can't wait to hear the sternum vibrating roar of the Lightnings ! :)

Even if I have to leave home at 0-silly-00 to get to the VTSC meeting at Brunters, 'twill beat the fertilizer out of that silly meeja-luvvy nonsense at ex-RAF Abingdon being held the same day!

Hi all, just thought I would post this clip of XS904 in action at a previous open day.
We will only be running 904 once durning the day as 728 is sick and will be busy on cockpit tours, so make sure you are around for about 12 noon which should be our 'slot'

Hi all, I hope all of you that braved the weather enjoyed the day yesterday, sorry about only running 904 once but the cost of two runs is to much.
728 is still poorly which is why she was on static all day.
We also couldnt possibly open the cockpits for tours, sorry.
We in the LPG got very wet, even down to the old Gundie's, but 904's run in the capable hands of Denis Brooks did us proud, makes all the hard work worth while somehow, mind you we had a 'little' moment when starting No1, she refused to go on her first 'shot' but obliged on the second, thats Lightnings for you.
Both burners woked perfectly, Dennis had to keep the speed down as there was a tail wind but got her up to 135Kts indicated, mind you the chute got soaked and is now hanging up along with my overalls :D
We also had a cracking day on the stall, selling out on brolleys, not suprisingly.
Its all going in the right direction for the Q shed fund

Heres a few poor shots I got on Saturday with the camera on my phone, when it was a lovely sunny day
First thing Saturday

Our first job was to refit 728's No2 hatch and bolt her up, then remove the nose jack and tail trestle

Next snag came when we wanted to start towing, our towing arm seized up ! So a strip down and lots of greese was the order of the day.

135Kts remindes me of the old story at Lyneham, where a fast taxi & engine run to locate a problem turned into inadvertant flight, and I dont think the guy was a pilot either - could be wrong there.

At what point speed-wise do they 'want' to come up?

Fantastic plane though. One with the burners on almost caused my wife to give birth at a families day at an airfeild just off the A1 back in june '86. We were just walking across the pan, and it emerged from behind the hanger with the 'whack' only delivered by an aircraft moving pretty fast. It had both tubes lit and then went for the sky. My Wifes stomach was gyrating in sympathy! I think she wanted to pop out for a look!- but she held off for 2 more days - Thankfully - wouldnt have wanted the show ruined...

My dim recollection that it was at Wroughton (then an MU?), the officer concerned was the SENGO doing ground runs and the aircraft jumped the chocks and got airborne. Ejection seat either not fitted (wooden crew room chair instead) or was not armed and there was no canopy. It must have happened because most of us have heard the tale. A link to some report or record of this event would be most welcome!

A link here (http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20807&highlight=Inadvertant+Lightning+Flight) to a thread on the Key Publishing forum, including a description by the man himself, Wg Cdr Wally Holden.

Just read it. What an amazing story. It doesn't suprise me that he was traumatised by the event. Imagine the shock, and then dropping BELOW the elevation of the runway on the way down!
