View Full Version : 06R Departure At MAN

Hello all,

I hope this is the right forum. OK, sometimes at Manchester a few heavies will use runway 06R to depart (SIA 777 etc) now someone on a Yahoo Message Board says it's down to noise restrictions but I always thought it was down to the performance, considering 06L has a hill you have to climb up. Could any pilots please tell me the exact reason for a 06R departure!

Thanks,
Sam :ok:

Can't believe it's noise restrictions.

Off 6R, you'll be higher over areas that get a lot of the southbound departures off 6L anyway.

I've asked this question on here before - I was abruptly told that the question had been previously answered and the post was deleted, but I'm pretty sure the reason was the rise in elevation at the Peak District and SIA just have slightly stricter SOPS than other airlines.

Sam,
It is due to "performance".....that the a/c is airborne before the 2000M mark.. well it's "Safety", innit?

I was told that the fact that some heavies use 06R Departure is because the runway profile is almost flat, compared to 06L which has a slight gradient. I'm not 100% sure on this, however, it seems to be the case, I have yet to see a 737 departing on 06R due to "performance"...!

I've not seen one depart off 06R yet although I know Singapore do it occasionally, specially when it's warm. BMI's 767 (PH-MCV, LAS bound) did it once and also a First Choice 767 the other day going to Cancun.

Yeah they will all be super heavies, especially the 767's going far away and need that bit extra

Are there any plans to develop the taxiways on 24L/06R?
This would allow normal single runway operations during the day in the event of R1 being unavailable.

It would also be much quieter for myself & other locals during outbounds on 06R.
