View Full Version : Jaguar Tails

In discussing ideas for the Jag Farewell Celebrations, it has been suggested that we should compile a volume of ‘Jaguar Tails’ (sic). I am quite sure that every current and former Jaguar pilot will have an anecdote that is worth sharing – be it a particularly amusing incident or a hair raising ‘single-seat moment’!

I would be especially grateful if every Jag Mate could take the time to write down his own Jaguar Tail and we will endeavour to produce something in time for the Disbandment Weekend on 29/30 Jun – feel free to submit more than one! Let me know if you are happy to be identified or would prefer to remain anonymous. I think that there is enormous potential here but it will need prompt support to be successful!

I envisage a compilation along the lines of the ‘I learnt about flying from that’ articles in Air Clues which I know I certainly always found fascinating. Given that many Tails will undoubtedly involve unexpected proximity to the ground or a wingman, the fuel gauges proceeding anti-clockwise rather further than ideal or an exploration of the legendary flight characteristics, I would urge careful thought before posting on a public forum where the unique context of a lonely cockpit will not be universally understood. Many undoubtedly will be suitable, and I am sure that PPRuNers will appreciate them – please send the rest to:

[email protected] ([email protected])

Remember to tell me if you wish to remain anonymous. I have sole access to this account and give my personal assurance that all confidence will be respected.

We are all busy people but please take a few minutes and seize this opportunity to record your ‘moment’.

Sorry, Flying Pongo - I just can't resist! To save OC 6 Sqn the trouble, you have just failed to "avoid further embarrassment" - to yourself! - both with what you said and how you spelled it.

Read what the man said ....

1. As well as your 'tails' I would like to ask for any Jag videos and pictures you have for a presentation. We would especially like any older jag pics including those of people who were on the Jag in RAFG. Please send them to the address above or post a link below. Any old sqn videos would be greatly appreciated as we can convert them to digital very easily. They will not be made public and may even be seen by the people in the pics/films themselves.

2. Any old Jag mates out there who were on any of the Jag sqns - please rack your brains for the sqn drink of choice, eg 6 Sqn - G+T:ok:, 41(F) - Seek and Destory (red aftershock + sambuca), 54(F) - blue and yellow...:yuk:

Memory jog - II(AC), 6, 11, 14, 16(R), 17, 20, 31, 41(F), 54(F), 226 OCU

Many thanks in advance....

I seem to remember Laphroaig was enjoyed by the guys on 16(R) when I was their air traffic liaison at Lossie. Bruce G-C introduced me to it at Happy Hour and I've still got the sore head!!:hmm: Never could hold my drink!!:\

Have a good one,

As an ex 'heavy man' I cannot offer you any Jag stories (I only wish i could) but I wonder if it would be possible to perhaps 'sell' some of the 'tails' or otherwise to raise funds for Nick Lock? If not, might I ask you to pm me with where we can make donations for his treatment please?
Thanks and kind regards to all

As you'll be able to see from the posts on the various threads this has huge Air Force wide support. Time is of the essence and all donations are essential. Thank you.

I see there will be a Jag at RIAT! According to the website QinetiQ are bringing the T2 (and an Alphajet). I trust the pilots will have a long hold by the happy snappers down at the east end; could this be the last public Jag appearance?
