View Full Version : RAF customized mess dress shirts????

Would anyone happen to know any tailors that will adjust the issue marcella shirt with a choice of fabric which remains hidden when under the jacket, within the UK (i.e. Akrotiri etc aside)? I remember seeing a display at JCSC Shrivenham a couple of years back from various tailors but can't remember who they were. Those ones had flags on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good grief man, you'll be saying you want patterned braces next. What's wrong with the formal grey braces and white shirt.

Who is going to see the art work under your mess jacket and waistcoat. For heaven's sake, don't emulate our soon to be late PM with art work on the sleeves of your shirts. Very common.

In my experience all the Station Tailors I have used are willing and able to modify the mess dress shirt as required, you might need to provide another loud shirt to allow the creation of the new one. RAF Regt mixing CS95 and Marcella shirts is quite a common one it seems!

Charlie - What a melting pot PPrune can be ! One post is about the health of former members of the armed forces and their treatment then yours comes along about the cut of your shirt! I am sure you will get plenty of replies!

Maybe people don't care?

Sorry guys, I'll remember to consider whether people are likely to care about my questions when I'm seeking help in the future.

Great community spirit. In the Military Aircrew forum, I'll wait for responses from the people I know are more likely to help me out. If you aren't in that category RileyDove or others that simply aren't interested, nil replies required. Thanks for to 10 seconds of your time

It was just a question after all......

Could you please explain/rephrase the question ?
What does 'adjust the choice of fabric' mean ?
Is it 'not' hidden outside the UK ?
I think we should be told in more detail what it is you require and we may be able to help.

CG, I do know what you mean, unlike some of the other pompus brats that frequent this forum.

Can't answer the question though.

NRU74, I see what you mean. I seem to remember Dame Kitty at the Royal Albert Hall. Her dress had been adjusted with a choice of fabric that remained hidden.

Only at the crescendo of Rule Britannia was the Union Flag revealled.

As for dress shirts with a choice of backs, if tailors dislayed them at the staff college surely tailors sell them ready to wear. For a bespoke shirt there are many shirtmakers in London, many of whom advertise in Jermyn Street.
