Are you still eligible to get your pilots license even if you have a misdemeanor?
I recived one a few months ago for playing with fireworks where they werent allowed. I emailed the officer asking what will be happeneing with it since I have not heard anything about it ever since I got in trouble and he said that he has the paperwork just sitting on his desk so I dont know if that was a way of telling me he is letting it go because I had been very honest and co-operative etc with him and also showing that I was concerned about it. If the paprework does end up going through, will I still be able to fly? im working on building solo time right now but I dont know if I should wait so that if it goes through I can request a dismissal from it beofre I get my private,so that the FAA does not find out about it wich might affect me later on down the line when i try for the airlines. How will this thing affect my flying? Thanks for any replies.

did you get the misdemeanor as a juvenile, if you did when you turn 18 the record goes away. now if you were charged as an adult is a whole different case i dont know about. but i have friends that pilot career have ended with a DUI. stay out of trouble and think twice before doing silly things.

Yea I got it when I was 16, now I'm 17 and I want to finish up my private this summer, but if they do a background check before they issue me a certificate, will I still be eligible for it? If I will then I might have to wait till I'm 18 to get it but if it's not necessary, then I want to get it this summer. Thanks,

All sorts of things come in to play with criminal records, depending on type of crime, seriousness of crime, age when committed, punishment received, etc. etc.

If the crimes aren't too serious, sometimes your record is cleaned at 18. There is also the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, which means, in most situations, you do not have to declare any crimes after a certain amount of time depending upon the punishment received.

I doubt very much whether a misdemeanour with a firework and a caution will prevent you from obtaining your PPL, but only the CAA can give you a definitive answer. If you have to wait a year, you'll have to wait a year. It'd be a tough punishment, but then it is a great privilege and responsibility to pilot aircraft.

My other hint would be not to try and cover it up. Being open and honest will get you a lot further in the long run. Every kid makes some sort of mistake and people understand this. As Bri85 says think twice and stay out of trouble from now on, and there shouldn't be too much to worry about.

PS I imagine the police officer will at some point process it. If unsure you can ask for what information the Home Office has on you - have a look at www.crb.gov.uk for more info although it may cost.

PPS I'm not a legal expert, but I know plenty of people who have done stupid things as kids and are now doctors, lawyers, bankers, pilots, etc. etc.
