Sorry if it is a stupid question, but has been long on my mind, so I'll just ask.
I'm wondering how much are computers used when landing the common jets (Airbus 320/319, Boeing 737s)?
Is it possible to just set up some sort of a glidepath etc. and push a button and not even touch the yoke to land the plane - and drink coffee instead:) ?
If it is - is it common to do so?

Thanks

Perhaps it would be surprising to hear I am not allowed to auto-land the jet I fly. I can only manual land it for the time being until I have my 'Low visibility procedures' sim training.

The bottom line - Yes, the design intent is full automation, and it is fully capable of autoland.

But the judgement and redundancy of human pilots is what makes autoland safe and reliable. :)
