View Full Version : Which Fleet is Best?

Gravox

G'day Guys & Gals,
I have just been informed that I will be joining the ranks of the 744, and have mixed feelings. Don't get me wrong I'm extremely gracious that I have a start and can't wait to get going. I have heard the stories of the long sleeve brigade on Daddy's yacht. Is it really that bad? Perhaps I had my mind set on another fleet. Can you let me know the pros and cons of the 744. For the matter why not the pros and cons of any fleet within Cathay, as I'm sure there are others with similar queries.

Cheers,

Gravox.

Oooh... This is going to be GOOD!

Finally, something worth watching on the 'net.:}

You have joined the fleet that was the reason I started to hate my job. Basically a miserable bunch of f!ckers. Lucky you. Yes the long sleeve brigade are in full force. Enjoy making the bunks for the next 6 years......Leave now they're not worth it. Trust me.

Please, please go away Hostile - you are a sad .....
Life is just too short for the likes of you.

No; life is to short to ruin another career by committing to this bunch of losers. The man asked a question. I gave him my opinion. So no sorry, I won't F#ck off, this in case you haven't noticed is the forum where we can express views freely. I am sick and tired of people telling me (and others) to f#ck off when we say something bad about a company that really does suck. So get back in your box boy. I'm going to have my say for quite a while yet.

Been on the 400, real mixed bunch of guys, some great, some you want to hit with a shovel.:ugh:

Now on the 777, great bunch of guys. I enjoy going to work right now.:D

The 400 is great for roster but the Airbus is better for destinations and the 777 doesn't count as an SO as it is still a way off for any real variety.

So long as you don't take any of it too seriously you should be fine on the 400. Think of it as a Monty Python sketch when someone is being a pain and you can get some really good material for your later career in television comedy.

Don't lose your sense of humour like some others we see on here.:ok:

As I recall you suggested no-one disagreed with you.

"No one has really disagreed with what I've had to say have they?"

When they did you lost it and started abusing them and now you say

"I am sick and tired of people telling me (and others) to f#ck off when we say something bad about a company"

You seem a bit schizophrenic to my non-medical mind.

As far as the -400 fleet goes in many years as FO there were a few guys I didn't like flying with because they upset the flight crew and cabin crew.

Since flying the -400 in the LHS i've experienced about the same number of FO's/SO's doing the same. The difference now is that I can tell them to behave (not necessary to dob them in the S**t).

The way you treat all others on these forums tells me exactly what you are like on the Flight deck.:=

Busy/23,

It is pretty clear you two would try and choke the sh!t out of each other if you met, so how about you just choose to ignore each others remarks as it seems to be leading nowhere.

Spent 8 wonderful years on the mighty 744, you'll love it. Maybe some guys will be a pain in the rear, yes the long sleeve types do exist but they are few and far between and you'll find out who they are in good time.
After that you should come to the 777, best damn aircraft around CX. Naturally I'm biased but 99% on F/O's I fly with agree, even the ones that came from the bus.
At the end of the year we will seriously ramp up S/O training on the 777 for the arrival of the 300ER. So maybe you could join on the 777 as a S/O?
Enjoy

Gravox, just do a little search on this forum and you will find quite a difference between the Boeing and Airbus fleets, some of that may well be historic by now.

There used to be a podgy chief pilot on the 744 who displayed some shocking behaviour, heard he at least is gone now. I don’t know who replaced him, as I have meantime moved on to a happier phase in my career and no longer have to deal with such misery. Best avoided! :yuk:

See if you get worse feedback from the Airbus bods, I doubt it.

BusyB: 23 is hardly treating “all” others on this forum with disrespect, I presume he has merely run out of patience with the yes-brigade. Not exactly the first morale meltdown, and it wont be the last... :hmm:

Thanks guys,
Messiah, i haven't had a laugh like that for a while. I'll collect the stories to tell the grand kids. Sounds like a sense of humour will be required.:D
If I start on the 744 as an SO can you swap fleets as an SO or do you have to wait until your upgrade.
Cathay were talking about trying to cross train on the 744 & 777 a while ago. Has anything come of this?
Do the 744 guys get more time off than the 340 ccq'd crew?
I had atually been hoping for the bus and figured out there destinations, where do the 744 SOs fly to. Do SO still help out on the freighter fleet if req'd?
Are there any good layovers lengths and locations?

Superfrozo I hope you're enjoying the show!:}

If you're an SO on the 744, and you're an American same as I, you're roster will read as follows: LAX, LAX, LAX, LAX, LAX, LAX, YVR, YVR, LAX LAX, LAX, FRA, LAX, LAX.......If you're not American, well then I just don't know

Ouch. Do Americans get the American hops because they're trying to commute, because they want them, or because the company is too afraid their Yank SOs will embarrass themselves if they go anywhere else?

superfrozo
4th May 2007, 05:16
It is company policy to have an Yank SO on board for all the American trips. It's for safety reasons, they're the only ones who can translate such "standard" American ATC phrases as "triple nickle eight ball come to 23 out of 34 and slow to a buck fifty...".

Ohh, and they can translate "jive" for you when you go out on the town.. Know what I'm saying DAWG!:}

thepotato232
4th May 2007, 05:28
Word up, G. That's whack.

I hope the company doesn't expect us all to speak fluent American going into the interview - I've spent far too much time flying in the middle states. The guys out on the coasts make my controllers sound Shakespearean by contrast.

ACMS,
thats weird...when I was on the tristar as a FO, I told all the captains that the tristar fleet was the best...when I went to the bus, I said the bus was the best fleet. Now as a captain all my FOs tell me the bus is the best fleet. Hmmm...they also laugh at all my jokes!!!!???????

Gravox, there are good and bad points about every fleet. 777 seems to be the best aircraft...400 gives you the best lifestyle...airbus gives you the most varied flying(except your last year as an SO when you will do 3-4 oz trips a month on the 330!).

Join, pass the conversion, get online and then work out what you want when you upgrade. Truth be told you might not have too much say what aircraft you go on...I think the training system is close to melting down from overheating. For the next 2-3 years most SOs will upgrade to the 777. After that, who knows. Basings are a good way to get on a type you want...as long as you are prepared to be based where the aircraft goes.

enjoy!

Methinks the airbus destinations are better. My friend an SO flies to LAX all the time and gets bored after awhile.

Gravox

Numero Crunchero thanks thats the sort of information I was after. Lifestyle is what I'm after so sounds like the 744 could be rather cool. 777 is a beaut machine and I would love an upgrade on that, but hey plenty can happen between now and then.

Thanks for you response.

CrusingSpeed...
BusyB: 23 is hardly treating “all” others on this forum with disrespect, I presume he has merely run out of patience with the yes-brigade. Not exactly the first morale meltdown, and it wont be the last...

CrusingSpeed, you are telling BusyB that Hostile23 run out of patience with the yes-brigrade... how about the fact that we are sick and tired of "Hostile23", NO/CXsucks comment? Things do go both ways you know. Maybe if Hostile23 stop making comments in every YES post, then we will stop making comments in every NO post? Does this sounds fair to everyone? Also if Hostile23 stop putting down those who do enjoy CX, maybe we will stop complaining about Hostile23 negativity about CX. Does this sounds fair to everyone concern? If this sounds fair, maybe CrusingSpeed can talk to Hostile23 about this!

In regard to which fleet is better, I think the Airbus is awesome fleet. Some of he best bloke you will find in this fleet. Although, the aircraft can be less desirable at times.

Email alert to a pprune reply… what a funny surprise. :-)

Anyway, yes, there are different characters on the lurk here at pprune, and they usually belong to the pro or con group. Or the third, who are having fun reading all this… some of them managers who want to keep us on our toes.

Hostile has been burnt badly and is obviously furious to the treatment that has been leveled at him. You don’t have to be a freedom fighter or have renegade characteristics to be outraged at what happens here on a frequent basis, pretty much unparalleled in the industry. If you are saying that hostile is wrong in applying basic civilized norms to his professional life then you are doing your own career and future a huge disfavour… I would hazard a guess that he is just not in a state to argue calmly at this stage… he is just fed up and sick of this s h I t

At the other end of the spectrum we have ACMS, the cold blooded opportunist who probably sold his grannie for a command with CX. He posts here to justify his lack in the spinal department and gets a bit of sadistic enjoyment in having others exposed as bunk-makers (pre-departure) or failures (post-departure). These are the very types who make a career in this company, at the expense of the many decent people who are working the line and deserve a development towards 21st century standards.

BusyB, a gentleman that many moons ago has seen some good times in this company, usually means well but at times seems a bit out of touch with todays harsh reality.

FiveGreen with some very good posts, infact they are so reasoned they seem completely absurd on this forum at times.

All posters a microcosm of the real thing, you’ve got to see this circus to believe it and you either continually turn a blind eye or make a decision. Once you have successfully cut the corner you will refuse to believe that you have ever bent over for a 3 month contract with constant threats, common disrespect, miserable morale, lack of proper training and a huge environmental impact to the health of you and your family.

Now BusBusBus… don’t try telling me you belong to the category Cadet, because I know for a fact that, through having done their time here, most have a much more differentiated outlook.

Perception (as well as self perception) is fallible…

I have probably wronged ACMS too…
after all, 99.9 % of 777 FO’s enjoy their nightstops with him, or so he says… :E

ACMS
23rd May 2007, 04:12
geeee thanks.................nice to feel the love all around.

I can honestly report that 99% of all line Captains on the 777 are enjoyable to fly with (according to the F/O's I fly with ), I am very happy to be one of that bunch. Apart from one well known guy that reduces fuel, my F/O mates cannot think of any Captain they don't enjoy flying with.

Now stick that in your peace pipe and smoke it

ACMS
23rd May 2007, 12:56
yes and I think we all know him too.

There was another one that left for the 744.

And there are a few in the Checking dept that don't make to many friends, but on the whole you must agree the Line Captains are pretty ok.
