Virgin ticket prices...when to buy?

Folks,

I'm trying to book VS to MCO from LGW in October...not so long ago these flights were showing prices as low as £320 return. Of course, I hesitated, and by the time I got back to buy them, they had jumped up to over £400. So I waited, and kept checking the website, only to find tonight that they have jumped to over £600! Now we flew with VS on this route last year on similar dates, and the flights had plenty of space...so it can't be down to demand. If I hold off, can I expect to see the prices fall at any stage? Incidentally, I also checked BA...and they seem to have similarly risen!

Could be down to the weak dollar stimulating tourist demand.

There's a good chance those flights will be full this year.

isnt it funny that whenever you check for a BA or VS price, they always seem to be within a couple of quid of each other? ;) i think you will find that orlando is very busy this year. $2 to the £ and demand is high. have just come back and the place was heaving, queues/lines for everything.
if you are in belfast, have you thought of lingus who are starting an MCO service soon?. if you are going in the school half term, its normally cheaper to go with a US carrier, albeit via one of the hubs.

What do you expect? Orlando, July, school holidays, only 2 months before? Wonder if anyone else has considered Florida for a holiday at $2/£1? It's not rocket science!

Now, a serious thought ..... have you considered looking to book via intermediate stop? Maybe JFK/EWR or ORD or BOS? The traffic levels pick up in school holidays to Florida, California, etc, but business traffic falls over the same period. Buying a ticket via the places listed and then getting a domestic transfer may work out better for price, if not elapsed time.

Ok folks,

Just last week VS were running a ticket sale for travel before June (I think)...if I hold off am I likely to find a similar sale for late Autumn flights...

Maybe some VS staff could advise!

...school holidays....er, yes... if I didn't have kids on school holidays then I wouldn't be considering flying there at that time!I'm looking at the non-direct possibilities but I was also interested in finding the other thread in case it had other options I hadn't considered.out of interest, is it possible to buy the return in the US, the wrong way round, or as single flights, is this cheaper or do they blobk this?

try flyglobespan, they offer direct flights from BFS-SFB, great service too. All for about £250 return

Looked at Globespan, but they don't offer flights in November (so far) and when you add it all up, they aren't that much cheaper than a good VS fare...if I can get one!

Possibly not relevant in this case but whenever I'm checking fares from operators I always clear my cookies on a very regular basis whilst switching between sites. Some websites where there is demand led pricing - having recognised that you have looked at their pricing before - charge more as they figure that 'the more you look the more likely you are to buy'. If the cookie from previous visits is not there they don't know that you're there!

£483 fly drive return with XL - Thats of course if your not bothered about the quality of service you get from Virgin.

Still either way, plenty of leg room, free drinks and a ride on their err old 747.

I'm also looking at buying VS tickets this winter. We want to go to either Barbados, Antigua or The Bahamas. It's strange that with some travel websites you can book say 10 nights in Barbados for around £600 inc VS flights and a good hotel. But then you go to the Virgin website and a rtn flight to BGI from LGW will cost around £500 just for the flight! For some reason BA fares to Nassau and Barbados are much, much higher than VS for the same time.

I would suggest one option would be to try Atlanta with BA (For example) and then either get an internal flight or go for car hire and drive down. You might get a good deal on the car hire that way as well. Just a suggestion.
