The cheapest furniture shops are in Macau. If you're buying a lot it can save you a lot of money. However, with just a few pieces, you're probably better off staying with the Hong Kong shops. If there's a problem with it and it has to go back to the factory, it's much easier to get it back via the HK shop. (The stuff is made in the same factories whether you buy it in Macau or HK.)

The shops in Horizon Plaza in Ap Lei Chau mainly deal with already made stuff, and it's been gettin expensive of late. The best place in HK is Queens Road East in Wan Chai. There are lots of shops there all offering a similar service. We've bought or had furniture made from several shops and have been very happy with it. One piece had to go back but it wasn't a problem at all.

Dan,

Have you had any custom furniture, such as a couch, made by any of the shops on Queens Road? My GF and I are considering having a custom couch done, and spoke with several shops there, but don't know anything about any of them. If you have a good recommendation would you mind passing it along? Thanks.

No, just hard furniture. We bought two high quality reclining couches from a big store on the second floor of Horizon Plaza.

We have had two sofa's made by shops in Queens Rd and they have both stood up to the children no probs. Good quality construction and a good price. One of the shops, Ritchie furniture, has relocated to a bigger store in Aberdeen.
We found a sofa we liked in Tequila Kola, went to Queens Rd and told them, they pulled out a Tequila Kola catalogue and said which one you want? So we got the same sofa for slightly over 1/2 the price as at Horizon Plaza.
The advantage with Queens Rd is that you can get it exactly how you want to suit the size of the pad you are living in. Size, shape, depth, cushion filling, material etc. Then vary as required to get the price you can afford.

Just walk along Queens rd from shop to shop until you find one you are comfortable with.

Hope that helps.
