Any ideas? Jet II 22nd Apr 2007, 07:39 What browser are you using? REF 22nd Apr 2007, 07:52 what do you mean by what browser? I have the internet explorer which I use to access the web if that helps? BombayDuck 22nd Apr 2007, 09:11 REF - that could be one of the problems. Get a copy of Firefox from here (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/). It will stop unwanted popups and is safer than IE. Another thing, if you're working on Windows XP, make sure you have service packs 1 and 2 installed. BOAC 22nd Apr 2007, 19:28 As an alternative, REF, as you sound as if you might be a 'beginner' at this computing/browsing thing, you can go to the Google site and download a pop-up blocker which allows you to select whether to allow them or not. Might be simpler for you than installing and learning a new browser? Google is just one of many options you will find if you search for 'popup blocker'. Tarq57 23rd Apr 2007, 05:59 Just to nail this down a bit, are the popups advert related, or do they say stuff like "you are infected with blah blah, purchase...." or redirects to a site you didn't expect to go to? Bushfiva 23rd Apr 2007, 06:41 I'm with Mr Markjoy, since Ref said "I now get unwanted popups". There's something there that needs fixing, and installing more stuff isn't the way to go. under_exposed 23rd Apr 2007, 07:50 http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=135966 solved all my problems. Tarq57 23rd Apr 2007, 08:30 Yep, a useful tool in the battle for good security. If there's already a trojan, or other nasty on board, need to sort that first, though. I've been using the mvps hosts file for a while, only downside is that sometimes a not-so-dangerous or not-so-bad site gets blocked. |
