View Full Version : Isle of Man TT ???
skibeagle 15th Apr 2007, 04:33 Are there any pilot/atco/engineer bikers heading to the Isle of Man TT this year ??? Met up with a group of RAF/RN Fighter controllers last year, just wondering if we can pprune a bike get together somewhere during race week perhaps ????
BA123 15th Apr 2007, 23:13 Hey,
I'am from the isle of man and if you do love bikes and road racing then get over there. especially this year it being the 100th anniversary. Have you been before? I will miss it this year because i am in canada at moncton flight college doing JAA training.
Nice to see the Island get a mention on pprune
Chris
Anotherflapoperator 16th Apr 2007, 21:54 I live there too, and I ride, plus I'm a marshal. Oh, and a prat too!
I'll be mostly at Bungalow during practice and races. Look for the bald idiot with "Chief Sector Marshal" written across his back. I might be on a red VFR800VTEC, or something a bit tastier if it's dry!
If you haven't booked yet, you might need to be quite flexible to get over!
skibeagle 19th Apr 2007, 05:52 yes it is going to be a crunch this year - I have a ferry over on June 1st but couldn't get back until June 14, so Im leaving my bike in the island until later in June. I shall look for the bald flap operator at the bungalow ! We (the missus and I) are staying in Laxey, I will be taking her to see Chubby Brown, which should be a riot as she is American - another evening of translating a geordie git into english.....LOL
Tango2 24th Apr 2007, 10:23 I wish I could manage this year. I've never been over but maybe next year!
Agaricus bisporus 27th Apr 2007, 11:22 Go to the Manx Grand Prix later in the year. It is MUCH less crowded and MUCH more fun, and the racing is at least as good. Miles of bike-only traffic jams are not my idea of a having a good time.
red17 27th Apr 2007, 11:48 traffic jams will be the least of the problems. I read somewhere that the Isle of Man Steam packet has 16,000 bikes booked to travel over, add that to cars, support vans and all the pax travelling by air!! if i could I would escape for may and june!!
McHover 29th Apr 2007, 19:24 I went to the TT the last year on an Air Atlantique DC-3 from Coventry... Not sure if they are doing it again this year (try their website) but it made a great day out even better...

jollypilot 29th Apr 2007, 23:13 Im going this year, get over on the 29th may (just in time to see The Who!!) and stay there for 8 or 9 days, cant quite remember. I'll have the bike over.
boristhemini 3rd May 2007, 19:01 Can't go. Please enjoy a couple for me!
Lets hope for a safe meet.
130mph lap this year? Lets hope we don't have to pay for it with a loss.
Gooo Arrrn McGuiness!!!
(I like McGuiness know.. can you tell???)
Snappybits 4th May 2007, 12:46 The one way system will be in place for the entire TT fortnight, commencing on Saturday 26th May and reverting back to two way traffic on Monday 11th June. The road will be actively policed 24 hours a day during the period, and particular hazard points will be coned off and signed, in order to assist with traffic calming.
Specific locations where coning will be used are the Hairpin, Bungalow, Keppel Gate and Creg ny Baa. Detailed arrangements are being made to enable race marshals to get to and from their stations.
All cones and signs will be removed from the road before race sessions and the Mountain Road will close early to facilitate this. It will re-open only once the cones and signs have been replaced.
With more traffic expected on the Coast Road, from Douglas to Ramsey, there will be parking restrictions and alterations to the timing of traffic signals.
Full details of all arrangements will be advised nearer the time to local authorities and effected residents and businesses.
JB007 18th May 2007, 22:10 Just got the June roster and i'm off over the first week in June for a few days - Dad moved to the IOM last year so depending on FlyBe's prices from LGW, i'm gonna try and make it!
Few pints of Bushys anyone in The Albert, Port St Mary??? Not far from the VOR, IOM 112.20
Cheers

gcolyer 21st May 2007, 11:29 Guys,
Why not fly in to Andreas during race week?
£10 landing fee and free parking. You can camp under the wing and have a bbq. I will be there between 1st - 11th flying the PA32, PA28 and grumman tiger. I am sure I can fit a burger or 2 in between flights.
