Hi there folks. Planning a road trip around California at the end of August which will also take in Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Time is a little tight so I am considering not driving to the Canyon and taking a scenic flight instead. Can anyone recommend a good operator that I should look at? Also do any of them offer airline discount?
Any help appreciated
Cheers

When i went we took a helicopter ride. They actually went down inside the canyon and landed, so you could get out and hike around a bit. They also packed a lunch for us which was great.

My own experience... and I have a little flying the Canyon... is that if Mom wanted to tour the Ditch I would put her on Scenic or Grand Canyon Air. The aircraft are better suited, the pilots are better trained and the experience will be a better value.
Feel free to IM me if you'd like more info.

The guys at Scenic Airlines are incredibly helpful to airline staff, on production of an ID. I have taken 3 sightseeing trips with them over a period of 12 years, and each one has been cheaper than the last! If seats are free on closeout, they'll try to get you on. I once had my whole family with me (7) and there were 7 no shows, so incredibly we all got on.They leave from the smaller Las Vegas airport, (I think it's Las Vegas North?)I think my last day trip in 2005 (lunch, rtn flights, rim tour etc) was $25! I can't praise them enough - they are brilliant. :) Hope this helps!

Vision Air is also an option.

I'd like to add to corsaman's comments:
Scenic Airlines fly from Boulder Muni airfield, between Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam. I had the pleasure of flying with them two weeks ago. The people there were really nice and on production of an ID got Mrs f and me on stand-by for the last flight of the day, for $80 each (instead of $139 regular). The flights -- TwOtters only -- last a little over an hour and the scenery is incredible beautiful, although they only fly over the western part of the Grand Canyon.
As they say on ebay: Highly recommended! A+++

Hi,
Last year in June I did an overnight tour with Scenic airlines ( for not that much more than a day trip). It involved a flight from North Las Vegas to Grand Canyon airport the bus trip to Yavapai lodge ( overnight) , a tour to Hopi point I think then a Sunrise trip to Hopi point then back to the lodge for 2-3 hours before the trip back to the Grand Canyon airport and the flight back to Vegas ( I found that after sunrise go for a walk along the rim to Bright Angel lodge and El Tover and there is hardly anyone up so you feel you have the canyon to yourself almost!:ok:
Highly recomended!!:)

Did Papillon Grand Canyon a year ago out of LAS and got an airline rate. Wasn't cheap, but it was the first helicopter ride ever for the kids (17 and 18) and it went very well. We did the one with a sandwich on the ground in the canyon. If I were to do it again I'd go with the same company.

I have a humble JAR PPL and would like to go flying around Grand Canyon with an instructor.
Does anybody know a good and not too expensive flight school nearby ?

Lake Mead Air in Boulder City, Earl Leaseburg who owns this operation was instrumental in helping my career.
