Pop,
In may experience that means you machine thinks it's got an american keyboard (Try the pound sign/shift F3). Solution is in Control panel: Regonal and language options: text services and input options on the second tab.
Hopefully that will help

Pop - as CBA says - click on Details/Settings - should show Input language UK and Keyboard UK. NB If 'something' has messed up your settings you MAY need the XP disk.

You could press shift alt simultaneously and see if that automagically fixes things up for you.

I always load both keybs. Then just Alt Shift toggles between the two. Drivers were on the OEM soft on the disc.
