Breaking a B767 Japanese 5 year contract

I was just looking at B767 expat contract companies around the place, and I was wondering how binding the 5 years actually was. What kind of penalties or requirements are needed to break it short if one was to leave early but with notice?

Does anyone have any input on the Q400’s as well?

The one thing you don't want to do is make that reputation for yourself.

Depends on the contract - many/most (most/many??) have a resignation notification period often 3 months or so.

If the contract does NOT have a resignation clause (and one US agency in Japan has such a contract for at least one of its positions) Dominican has a very valid point.
But why would anyone ever sign such a contract?? :ugh:

There will always be someone that signs a contract but a life event comes up and they have to make changes that possible could include terminating an employment contract....

The answer is that MOST contracts have an escape clause that involves either a notice period or a penalty fee, it will vary with each contract.

What does YOUR proposed contract contain??

If the proposed contract does NOT have an escape clause then find out what other agencies are offering the same contract and see what they have. Contracts from different agencies usually have some variations/differences.
Or sign knowing there could be problems down the track.

Besides the fact that you are out the contract completion bonus (30 G's)

You can ask the contract agency of the specific requirements for the company you are targeting or better yet, ask during the interview:rolleyes:
