Does anyone know why on some decents (especially into the UK) I can be in absolute agony with my ears from 30 mins before landing but on others it's absolutely fine and I hardly notice it.
Is it pure coincidence or anything to do with the angle of descent?

A member of my family experiences excrutiating pain during severe changes in altitude, particularly descent. She had it checked out as she has to fly to visit family and occasionally for work. Apparently she has been lucky not to damager her ear drums and end up deaf. Don't mean to alarm you but they said that it was fairly serious and risky for her to fly. Something about a build up of pressure in the ear or ear drum. I'm not sure if she has been able to do anything about it but based on the severity of pain and the risk that flying poses for her, I would be looking to have it checked out and get some idea of what is happening. It may not be as bad in your case but if it is, the consequences may be severe.

Good Luck!:)

Just wanted to clarify that this happens most of the time for her but is not a sure thing!
