18.55 GMT today 18th March 2007, roused by the sound of contra-rotating props on a HEAVY a/c @ N55 deg W02 deg. Direction of travel impossible to determine as was the heading (the sky was full of resonating sound, like nothing USUAL that flies around here.
Wondered if it was an Antonov?
The position is the 'gap' that aircraft take to route AROUND Newcastle EGNT
when heading north towards Scotland. Altitude difficult to ascertain, but
not very high, yet not low enough for approach to Newcastle (we are 20 miles
out from EGNT along the runway centre-line to the West.)

Wonder if it was departing EGNT?

Anybody got any ideas?

Are you sure it wasn't an ilyushin?

Has it left Prestwick? Heard a high prop sound overflying here at 17.25 GMT. Couldn't be certain (yesterday was definitely something out-of-the ordinary).
