Does anybody know where I can buy health insurance cover to work in Canada? Have tried a number of companies, but none of them will cover a helicopter pilot at work.

Out of interest, is it a requirement to have health insurance to get a work permit in Canada, or just personal preference for piece of mind?

Try calling Haywards Aviation in London. Although they are mainly airframe insurance brokers they have a wealth of aviation knowledge and will probably know who can help you.

Please be more specific.

How long? A landed immigrant qualifies for provincial plans - hospital, doctor - after 90 days.

Your employer will probably offer extended health benefits - prescriptions, dental, etc. but not hospital and doctor.

If you are essentially just 'visiting' there are tourist plans which cover can everything - you get what you pay for - not good with pre-existing conditions. Reasonably priced for 14 - 30 days but climb exponentially after that - in theory you were healthy when you arrived but stuff can happen.

Hope this helps
