BAA Stansted Operational Planning

I'm not sure if i'm posting in the right forum so please redirect me if needs be.

I am currently looking to develop my career and I have applied for the position of Demand and Operations Planner for BAA @ Stansted.

I have been invited for an assessment day and I was just wondering if anybody on here has experience of these and is able to give me some info about what to expect?

I would also be grateful to hear of any more details about the role itself. I really want to do as much research as possible to be as thoroughly prepared as I can, therefore any help, advice or info would be much appreciated. Also can I expect that this role would be Mon - Fri?

I completed a BAA assessment day at LHR in Jan. I start my new job at LHR in March.

The day was conducted by Hunter Roberts who seem to be a specialist Assessment Day organiser.

It was split into parts, you had a timetable with a list of where you needed to be and when.

It started with a "Welcome to BAA talkie bit and video." Then we had a Competencies Interview for 20 mins - one on one. Then "Challenging Situation" number 1 - which was roll specific. Then an hours written test. Then "CHallenging Situation Number 2"

Was all over by 2pm

Very friendly, very professionally done. Totally organised and effecient.

Post is Service Team Leader in Terminal Operations.

The Challenging situations were quite roll specific, so don't read too much in to them.

The common factor was that professional actors were used to play certain individuals and character types.

For our assessment the Challenging Situation No. 1 was a meeting with a Supervisor from an airline (you work for a ficticious London Airport, the actor works for a ficticious middle eastern airline). The written notes explain some background information regarding an issue between a couple of the airline's check-in staff and the Terminal's operations. You have to conduct a meeting, exactly as you would in real life, with the aim of getting the airline's supervisor to see the reasons for the requests made of its chek-in staff.

The second was a performance review with a member of your team with a few issues to resolve.

One thing that BAA were exellent with was providing information in advance of the assessment day, and the help that the Hunter Roberts people gave during the day.

Feel confident that you will not feel lost or baffeled, but at the same time the written test is not especially easy (all of us ran out of time - 1 hour), and the challenging situations feel very very real with the professional actors.

Came as a bit of a major suprise that the BAA do any operational planning.

Not much evidence from my experience!

I'm not entirely sure at the moment, I'm sure I'll find out at the assessment day. Basically it involves assessing the demand for all types of services across the airport and putting plans into place for the practical day to day running...i think! :O

Can anyone offer more detail into what Airport Operational Planning would entail? I have been doing as much reading up and research on Stansted as possible but an insight from somebody with experience would be much appreciated.
