For some reason it reminds me of something out of a Dilbert Cartoon

I know what you mean - but for me it was Homer Simpson with a pea-shooter. :ok:

Similar to the Goalkeeper fitted to the carriers ATM. I think the same system, the Phalanx, is fitted to the current type 42 destroyers. Might be wrong though.

I guess the low fly-by of the lads is now out of the question.

Cant depress the barrel enough in my opinion...
Quite cool, you can hear the cannon rounds self-destruct afterwards.
Can we have this at BAS please? And if not, why not?

I expect some bollox answer like ROE. Which, we all know, is a pile of old crap. the real answer being we cant afford to protect our people in these hostile areas.

Can we have this at BAS please? And if not, why not?

Two very valid questions that our Lords and Masters should be answering...:D

Heard a good story about this.
May be complete b@llocks, but still funny.

Supposedly the Taliban have started to believe the bases defended by these things have a bouncy force field that sends the rounds back.

1. The Taliban lob a few mortar rounds in.
2. They see bangs high above the base.
3. The artillery radar gives the yanks the grid of launch.
4. The Yanks lob a few back.
5. The Taliban take incoming.

Genius:ok:

Thanks for the info:

I'll start counting my Tesco Clubcard vouchers now, I've a little bit tucked away under the matress, and I'll see what I can get for his Bob the Builder collection on eBay.

I may not be entering into the spirit of this but it's a dead ringer for a Vulcan Phalanx cannon. The grey war canoes started acquiring them late '82. A Phalanx a day keeps Exocets away.

When I watch the link, above the play screen is the following caption:

C-RAM (Counter-Rocket Artillery Mortar) system testing Marked as: Featured
For the unbelievers of the video I posted earlier of the system in action against an actual mortar attack in Balad, Iraq, here is the system being tested. Here is the video I posted of it in action in Iraq. Also called Land-Based Phalanx Weapons System or LPWS.

Two other uses?

Direct ground defence, you could rev up the Taliban nicely with that thing.

Map predicted fire, work out where the rounds land and spray away, it would be like lead rain and would keep any buggers head down.

I don't fancy the idea of reloading those magazines though.
