CNN story (http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/02/08/anna.nicole.collapses/index.html)
Can't work out why the story says she died in a Florida hotel then talks about Hollywood hospital - unless there is a Hollywood in Florida that is...

Can't say I regard it as tragic, as I'm sure she had a ball in her time - especially recently.

Immediately thought of the Jeff Ross roast of Pamela Anderson and towards the end, having taken the utter p!ss out of Pam (and even more so Courtney Love) Jeff 'notices' AN'S' in the audience and says that if he had to roast her then he could use the same jokes (titter) - pause - 'plus fat jokes'(LMFAO). Priceless. I won't post the link but it doesn't take much to find it on YooToob.

Bad taste? Maybe. Sorry.

I wouldn't really class burying your 20 year old son as having a ball recently, would you 'Bloomoo'?
The tragedy is that she left behind a 5 month old child if anything.

From Wiki Anna Nicole Smith (November 28, 1967 – February 8, 2007[1]) was an American model, actress and blonde celebrity, who first gained popularity as Playboy magazine's 1993 Playmate of the Year.(yes , that is fast)...
Smith's 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith, died suddenly on September 10, 2006, in his mother's hospital room while visiting her and his newborn sister. [11] After the coroner labeled the death "reserved," Smith hired forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht to perform a second autopsy. [12]
Dr. Wecht announced on Larry King Live that the procedure he performed on September 17, showed that Daniel died from a lethal combination of Zoloft, Lexapro and methadone. Although he explained that methadone is used in the treatment of heroin and morphine addiction, he said he has no information to make any conclusion about the reason he was using the drug.
On September 18, Getty Images sold the last photos taken of Daniel alive at his mother's bedside to In Touch Weekly and Entertainment Tonight for at least $650,000. [13] As of November 19, Wecht had still not been paid for his services, but stated that he was in contact with Smith's attorneys and was confident the matter would soon be resolved.
There is tragedy all around AlexB - Don't go pretending to be the sage on my morality, eh?

Unfortunately her biggest claim to fame was marrying that 89 year old billionaire. Everyone labelled her an unscrupulous gold digger back then, and nothings changed.

I suppose I am a bit like my Father who after working many years with an absolute asshole was asked to give something to the guys collection when he died. He told the guy doing the collection.

"Not a chance, I hated the c**t, I'm not changing my opinion just because he's dead".

What irks me are all the fawning hypocrites who were happy to slag her off and snigger behind her back when she was alive but now cry out in anguish when anything is said against her now she's dead.

Do you know, when someone dies the Media always have a story of their life bit and roll out a succession of old celebrities to say how wonderful they were and how much they will be missed. Just once, just once I would love to see an interview on the BBC where someone says.

"He was a complete prick"

Why is there not already a class action inviting everybody who ever shtupped this bimbo to make a claim for paternity? Hell, I'll play along, I'm sure she's been to Australia and there are more than a few nights where I can't accurately recall what happened. Hey, somebody's number has to come out.

The reasons I can see for her fame are:

1. She was a Playboy magazine Playmate of the Year

2. As a golddigger, she achieved the heights of success, getting an eighty-nine year old near billionaire to marry her and will her the bulk of his estate.

3. In her public personna as the crassest of bimbos, she was never outdone.

4. As hostess of a television program, she was the worst ever.

While I feel sadness at the outcome of her life, she succeeded in what she set out to do, worthy goals or not. The tragedy is that our culture values these things so highly.

G-CPTN

3. In her public personna as the crassest of bimbos, she was never outdone.
A BBC reporter who was assigned to interview her about her 'fame' says it was the most boring time of his career, as she had absolutely NOTHING of intelligence to say . . . :ugh::(

Monroe was 36 years old. Her death was ruled as an overdose of the sleeping pill Nembutal.

As usual, BenThere has outlined the case for the prosecution succinctly and without resorting to sarcasm as I did.

I would take issue with point #3, but it is arguable. This girl wanted fame and riches and was prepared to do whatever it took to achieve it, no matter how demeaning or debasing. That involves a level of crassness most of us can only shake our heads over, but in terms of the Bimbometer, I don't think it ranks anywhere near the top of the scale which I see as being occupied by somebody who was born with these things and has made her life mission that same self-debasement using her inherited fortune.

The tragedy is that our culture values these things so highly.

And that's it in a nutshell. We don't have to look too far to find the origin of that disease, and most intelligent Americans would admit to it. Unfortunately it became an unstoppable virus which oddly enough infected mainly rich western nations.

I don't know how things operate in Oz, but here in the UK we have magazines devoted to this mindless search for fame, not only by the participants, but by the punters who actively encourage this eulogism. That these false 'celebrities' are bereft of any talent has been demonstrated admirably by Big Brother . . .
If people didn't buy the magazines or read the newspapers, then such artificial intelligence would fail to germinate.

As a result (?) of p*sting the link to the image of Anna Nicole Smith and her sturdy companion http://www.pprune.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3115735&postcount=15 Photobucket has now removed it from my account. Is this, I wonder, as a direct result of 'refreshing' the link (it has sat uncensored on my Photobucket account for several months now and unused since originally added when it was used elsewhere on PPRuNe IIRC) or are Photobucket trawling through accounts viewing images and deleting them as they go? Do we perhaps have a Photobucket Mole here on PPRuNe?

G-CPTN,

As a fellow user of Photobucket (better than most image hosting sites IMO), I would imagine it is due to the content of the image.

I could not access your link (obviously) but it does show the icon that states 'user has violated terms, blah blah blah'.

All I can say is if there was any hint of nudity (nipples, muff, schlong etc) they do find them and delete them. Shame of course but unfortunately by signing up with them you did agree not to use their site to host such material.

If the image didn't show any of the nudity above, well, they're just a bunch of tossers.

In fact the image did show Ms Smith 'au naturel' save for a pair of flip-flops (on her feet), a slim necklace chain and an arm-band of some sort. She was promenading 'Brazillian-style'. I DID originally p*st the IMAGE here then thought better of it and left just the URL.
It was the coincidence of the 'outing' here on PPRuNe and the simultaneous removal by Photobucket that amazed me.

G-CPTN,

It might just be coincidence of course, but there's also a possibility a fellow prudish Ppruner or Photobucketer notified the site, as it does have a very simple report function. In these cases the site gets onto it immediately to remove offending material. Sadly, even pics without the rude-bits are being reported as inappropriate these days. I hate all this PC rubbish. Only six years ago I remember receiving all kinds of nudity and sick mpegs from colleagues in workplace. Ah, thems was the days!
