Have just heard a rumour that the RAF maybe looking to lease a number of Casa 235 for intra-theatre use. This may even be the ISTAR equiped version as seen on the EADS website.
Any truth to the rumour? What a great idea....at last some common sense as a short term stop gap.:D

Didn't the RAF get rid of a quite a few a/c of that size a few years back?

I am due multi posting in a couple of years and would appreciate any info on this if it were to be true. Think it's up my street. Most interested in role and home base which I would obviously only see every now and again.

Irish Air Corps have been operating a few for years in the patrol role.

THS: I do believe you may be referring to the venerable Andover methinks.
Bet they'd be useful these days & the Whistling Wheelbarrow :hmm:

:E Looks like this may be a cool job and one that may keep a few of us in should it come to freuition. Just imagine...flying in a real aeroplane for possibly more than 100hours per annum.

Or is this just another rumour to keep us interested/distracted from the PVR for a short period???

Any chance of an informed reply from those in town who are watching?????

Real aeroplane? More than 100hrs pa? Some of us don't have to imagine that old chap.

Less than 100hrs per month would be nice!

Still, I reckon something like that might be quite fun :D

Where did all the Andovers go? Must be some oldy boldys still lurking about the mob who can still remember where the switches and levers are? Does Boscombe still have one? A bit like the ATR that used to drift up and down the Gulf from/to AAS, Bas and points south to Seeb?

Edited to add - Why not get some C-27's??

I think the RNZAF bought some of the Andovers.

The RNZAF Andovers are retired. As at about 18 months ago Boscombe could field a couple or 3 Andovers. One for Open Skies, one for Trials Development work and one for ETPS

Was on LS in Brunei when they introduced the 235 there. Top tip - don't buy one that's been anywhere near the Indonesian factory. Al K could entertain you with a few stories about those...

A lot of the ex RAF Andovers are trundling around the DRC/Angola/Sudan hauling freight and pax. A fair number of them are rusting gently beside remote runways where they've been crashed.

I believe the US Army are getting rid of their Super Sheds (for in-theatre rubber dogsh!t hauling). Why, and what for?? Should we buy them?

CN 235...flew a few tac missions with the RMAF last year on a 235. Great little aeroplanes, observed static line para, no good for freight/vehicles etc but could be excellent in more specialised roles. Basic crew of 2 x pilots and 1 x ALM.
