Pvr - F.r.i Bonus Return

Does anyone out there know of any threads with info on early PVR as spec aircrew and the repayment of the "many thousand quid" FRI bonus for a 5 year return of service. Basically if I leave after feb 2009 I pay nothing back, but leaving before will incurr penalties. Anyone with first (or second) hand experience. Will they claw back every penny, tax an'all.

I have complete sympathy with anyone who comes to realise their loyalty to this chicken sh1t organization has been misplaced, whatever the satge they reach the conclusion.

OK Fella here's the score,

You take the FRI you are committing to a return of 5 years.

You decide to leave before that date the crown expects the whole sum (gross amount) returned to them directly.

You then have to go to the UK Military Tax office folk in Swansea and reclaim the tax you paid on that sum for that financial year, as you have had a change in circumstances for that financial period. Tax returns are considered "live" for 7 years post submission, so the Customs and Revenue bods will give you back the tax you have now overpaid, the net result is you will be no worse than if you had not taken the FRI, however you will undoubtedly have a few issues with the C&R eejits as, like all pussers and blanket stackers, it really is THIER money!!

I would assume that they would offer you employment in a ground job. I don't know if that would incur a corrsponding loss of pay, with reversion to Pay 2000 pay scales?

RON11, whatever you pay back, lose in tax, gain in tax, or whatever, soon becomes a piddling amount compared to your earning potential outside. It's not difficult to become a beacon of inspiration in a sea of mediocrity outside, and you get paid for all that extra effort and expertise. Not a sweeping generalization, but based on a few years employing ex-mil types.

feel free to message me for info, I'm further down the line than you but in the same situation. Worst case senario is you pay back the NET amount not the gross. Best senario you may pay back nothing.

I totally agree with two's ins comments. I left when an FRI was "re-targeted", in plain English they stopped paying me an incentive to remain back in Mar 03. I PVR'd in Apr 03 and am now earning far more than I was before, for a lot less hours and no stress. If my company wants me to do it a favour by working beyond the norm I am handsomely compensated for it. We also now have a lot of ex-mil in my industry and they shine out far above the daily dross!
