Can anyone succinctly outline the steps that I must take to get the FAA piece of paper from the FSDO when i go there. I have printed out the US stuff but the UK CAA site isn't as clear. Anyone done that and can talk me through the steps- much obliged.:ok:

Here's what I've just done:
1) Fill out CAA form SRG\1160
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/FORSRG1160.PDF
2) Fill out CAA form SRG\1187 (to pay them - easiest to give a credit card number)
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/FORSRG1187.PDF
It's £38 ( check at http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/175/srg_fcl_Scharges_ppl_06.pdf )
3) Fax the above two forms to the CAA at 01293 573996 (or post them to them - the address is at the bottom of the first form)
4) Fill out this FAA form:
http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/media/verify61-75.pdf
(you can click in the fields and type, then just print and sign)
There's some additional information at:
http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/foreign_license_verification/
You have to choose a Flight Standards District Office that you're going to go to in person to collect the certificate - pick one from:
http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/field_offices/fsdo/
and fill in its address in box 11.
5) Photocopy all the pages of your licence and medical - two pages per one of A4 (it's a pain!)
6) Fax the FAA form and the photocopies to the FAA at 00 1 405 954 9922
Then sit back and wait. The CAA send you a receipt, then hopefully the FAA send you a letter saying that's all OK and you can phone up your FSDO to make an appointment to get your certificate - details all on that page above. That's where I'm up to now - just about to call the FSDO!

Indeed the FSDO process is very simple. It is the paperwork process leading up to that which takes the time especially for the UK citizen as it requires a little extra paperwork to the UK CAA giving them 38 pounds to give permission to divulge information to the FAA.
