Ok - who can help me here? Years ago, I saw a film about an American bomber (B-24?) that had crashed in the desert, with the crew waiting to be rescued. When help arrives, it turns out that the crew are all ghosts, having been killed in the crash. As each body is recovered, the appropriate crew member disappears. Never seen it again since - what was it called??

PS that took 0.13 seconds

0.13 secs that produced the wrong answer! I'm talking about a fictional film, not a documentary, but thanks anyway.

The movie made from the story was a TV movie - Sole Survivor (http://imdb.com/title/tt0065007/). The aircraft used was an ANG B-25J

Which may or may not be a better match.
"King Nine Will Not Return"
o Writer: Rod Serling
o Director: Buzz Kulik
+ Capt. James Embry: Bob Cummings
+ Doctor: Paul Lambert
+ Psychiatrist: Gene Lyons
Captain James Embry wakes up next to the wreckage of King Nine. He remembers crashing with the rest of the crew, but nothing else. He sets off to find the other crew members. He finds the grave of one, mirages of all of them, and jet aircraft flying over. He collapses and awakens in a hospital room. Seventeen years earlier, Embry had missed the flight of King Nine, and ever since has felt guilty. He saw a newspaper headline about the wreckage of King Nine being found in the desert. He had went into a state of shock and hallucinated being in the desert, but later someone finds sand in his shoes.

As the posters above have said it's called "Sole Survivor". Made for TV movie back in the early seventies. Story is based on the wreck of an aircraft found in the Libyan desert by chaps prospecting for Shell Oil.

I was searching for it for ages - found it on eBay a couple of months ago.

Good movie :)

Can burn you a copy off if required - it's not an original as it was never released on video or dvd etc.

It's a top film. I saw it as a kid around the same time a saw catch 22 and for many years mixed up bits from the two. Only when I read catch 22 did I realise it was a different film and then there it was a couple of weeks later on tv.
Would love a copy if anyone can help.

The Lady Be Good featured well up in the lecture stakes in navigation training and radio compass direction finding.

Now this IS spooky; just got my latest mailing from the RAF Historical Society (after posting this thread) today, and there is a pic of the Lady Be Good taken from a Vulcan, with the shadow of the Vulcan over the B-24 using it as a training waypoint.

I was at El Adem shortly after Lady beGood was found. Eventually some wreckage was brought back to El Adem and then flown to Wheelus AFB (Triploli). I have since seen some remains with an explanation in the Air Museum at March ARB California. Please also look at www.tears.org uk for more info.
